Sherlock had gone a separate way after about half an hour. Soon after I saw Jesse walking up with another person that looked human. Aura hovered by Jesse's head happily.
As the trio came closer I could see the stress and a bit of panic on Jesse's face. Aura was flitting all over the place now, obviously freaking out. I walked to meet the trio.I didn't recognize the new person, but I didn't' think too much of that considering how long it took me to identify Shimmer, Jesse and Aura. The woman was a teenager. She wore her dark hair in a high, tight bun. I walked next to Jesse who was silent. I asked what was wrong but he didn't answer me. He looked at Shimmer instead and nodded slowly to her.
Now the mythical couple weren't the only ones freaking out. Shimmer was in the panic-fest here. The new person looked at me with curiosity, as though she had never seen someone like me before.
Then I heard quick-paced footsteps behind us and the mythical creatures around me were booking it for the cafe that was just ahead of us. What on earth was going on? In the dark... again. I hated it. I was the last one inside and I wasn't sure what my friends wanted me to do. Lock the door? The manager would probably have something bad to say if I did that. Ummm.... invisibility cloak? No Harry Potter or Wizards here. At least... I didn't think that the new girl was a Wizard. Or a Witch. Try to get at least some of the terms right. Why were my friends so afraid, anyways? I needed some sort of explanation.
"What's going on?" I finally asked. Nobody said anything for a bit. Then I'd love to say that everyone started talking all at once. But that's not what happened... at all. Shimmer spoke up like always. Except this time the faerie said only three words.
"The Faerie Council."
Self explanatory, right? Well, I guess that's what she thought, because Shimmer said nothing else.
When I was about to ask another question, the newbie spoke, "They come to round up faerie tale creatures who have done something wrong." She sounded in awe, almost like she ahdn't really realized that they had existed.
"They're just doing a routine check, I'm sure." I was trying to convince myself of this too. That never works and this time wasn't an exception.
"Except they never do checks." Pan said. Finally a mob of people--creatures--burst through the doors. My group of friends backed against the wall and I did too.
They were FREAKY! Some looked like they had come straight out of a horror film or a Grimm Brothers faerie tale. Black skin. I don't mean dark brown--I mean black. They had small, squinting, glaring eyes and bloody teeth that looked as sharp as freshly sharpened knives. They wore the same crimson robes and black motorcycle boots. Unlike Shimmer, they had wings. Their wings were translucent and had shifting designs that changed every time I blinked or looked away.
One in front--a man with black, spiked up hair--spoke in a combination of a hiss and what sounded like a sore throat. But it also sounded like fifty people speaking through one man's lips, "Come with me and don't resist."
'Me' it had said as though there was only one of them and not an entire group of about thirty of these creatures--these faeries. I moved backwards so I was pressed again Jesse. The faeries moved closer, moving like one person. Did they have to be so creepy? Shimmer was at the front of the group so spiky-dark-hair-faerie-guy took her wrist and pulled her towards them.
"Oi!" she yelled, "Stop that! No need to push!"
"All of you come with us or she will not be seen again." Well that was a bit more original than 'COME WITH ME OR YOU DIE!!' A bit more original, but still freaky. Slowly the new girl moved forward to join them, looking hard at Shimmer as she did so. Then Aura floated towards the robed group. Then it was only Jesse and me.
