I blinked my eyes, trying to see past the blurry filter that my vision was coated with. I heard some mumbling in the background. Maybe it was talking? I really don't know. I just know that it sounded really low and far away. My body felt unmovable. y limbs felt as though they were 2 billion pound weights attached to my torso.
After a while of uselessly lying on the couch, I caught snatches of conversation. Words that weren't really enough to make anything sensical in my still muddled puddle of a brain, but words nonetheless.
"...council... need..."
"No! ...weak...powerful...war...Armies...together."
"...safe...move...characters...faeries..."
"...awake?" Then the room fell silent for a moment. I felt like everyone was staring at me. Then the conversation snippets started again but I knew that I needed to do something other than eavesdrop on people. Maybe I should try opening my eyes?
My eyes were already open but it felt like I was underwater or something. I wasn't seeing right.I shut my eyes tightly and opened them again. Still blurry. I repeated this three more times with the same results. Finally I saw a blurry shape moving in my direction. My arms were still a couple billion pounds so I didn't' even try to move. I considered speaking but my lips wouldn't move. My throat and tongue were like sandpaper anyways so I wasn't quite sure what the point would be anyways.
The blurry shape bent down and stared at me straight in the eyes. Once again I tried to blink the blurriness away. Finally it seemed to clear up a little bit and I saw a face come slowly into focus. A girl. Shimmer.
I opened my mouth to speak but however hard I tried, I couldn't make a sound. I was like a fish out of water, my jaw flapping up and down, just collecting useless air. Unable to breathe, unable to speak. More people crowded around me. I almost felt like a caged animal now with everyone staring down at me, probably with expectations that I wouldn't meet.
"Don't try to speak or move." the Doctor's voice instructed. "It will only make it last longer... like Devil's Snare in Harry Potter." I might have smiled at the reference if my facial muscles would do more than just stay numb. Everything was numb now.
Was that the price of living for 72 more hours? Deafening, paralyzing numbness and lying on a couch for an eternity and a half?
"Why did you give her a paralysis root?" a male voice drawled. I wasn't completely 'here' so my one thought consisted of: 'What on earth is Alan Rickman doing in my living room?' I was kinda freaked out for minute or two. I mean, what was he gonna do to me? Use 'rictasempra ' on me with his wand? Ugh.
I wondered briefly what Mr. Rickman thought of this reference.... then it clicked. Alan Rickman wouldn't be in my living room except in a parallel universe where magic was real and Severus Snape was my father. Who was I kidding? At this rate, something like that could happen the day after tomorrow. I waited impatiently for my vision to clear up and the second in which I could wiggle my fingers again.
"Stop trying to move, Genison." Snape told me. I almost frowned in annoyance... except for the small detail that I couldn't move. I stayed still like everyone demanded me to. Slowly my vision started to clear and I was able to see who was around me. Shimmer was on my immediate left followed by Pan and Aura on Shims left. At the end of the couch was Snape followed by Sam and Dean Winchester. Then there was Campbell and Sherlock. At my head stood the Doctor. My mouth slowly morphed into a smile but I still couldn't talk or move my limbs.
