Unedited Chapter 5

His eyes were crazy.

His hair was shabby and his clothes had blood stains on them. The reason why his mouth was bleeding was because the authorities tried to cut his tongue off. Reason? He let out confidential information, which they are now trying to figure out what it was.

Although it was only for a couple of days that he was tortured, Niall looked like he hadn't eaten since a month. His cheekbones and collarbones were probably more prominent than Aurora's. Dried blood still set in the corners of his lips and his eyes, shallow yet alert.

And as for Aurora, she held onto the wound on her collarbone that Niall had cut open.

"They will find us with the tracker inside you", he said.

The tracker lay inside the bin in her room, diffused and unrepairable, while they were hiding from the guards in the air vents. It was then, that Aurora understood how they knew everything that she did. Every conversation that she has had and every time she thought of escaping the place.

The tracker was designed to be an organ that sensed and recorded every movement, sound, and changes in the body of the host or caused by the host. Once introduced inside the body it takes over the nervous system and functions just as any other cell.

Everybody in the building were required to have it. The authorities can monitor what the workers, doctors and the patients did, without having to install cameras that hinder their privacy. Although it seemed the reason behind was more than just for the sale of privacy

"We have to get moving. It wont be long until they realize that you are missing." Niall and Aurora sat hidden for what felt like forever but it had just been an hour.

"Why was your mouth bleeding?", she inquired. " They tried to chop my tongue off."

That gave her a shock and made her even more curious than she was before. "Why would they do that? Would they actually go to such extent? I mean, all you did was tell me about the mirror. And why am I even here, what is this place and would they do the same to me? Am I go...."

"Aurora shut up. I cannot answer your questions now you have to figure them out on your own." Niall quit her ranting.

"I want to ask you you just one more question"

"What?" He gave an irritated reply.

"Can I trust you?".

"No"

And thats when Aurora was done. She got up and ran out of the vent, making sure no one was there first. She could hear Niall screaming for her, but she couldn't care less. Somehow his behavior set her off and she knew she just had to get out of the place or she would go mad.

But Niall smacked her head hard before she could take another step. Muffling her scream with his hand on her mouth and other on her neck, he dragged her to the nearest room and locked it.

Just as expected, their commotion had attracted attention. A couple of footsteps from just where they had been standing could be heard along with unrecognizable metallic sounds.

"Mutants" Niall whispered. That obviously didn't sound good. The noises and footsteps outside started to increase and it wouldn't be long until they are discovered. And Niall decided to act fast.

"Listen to me carefully Aurora, we need to get out of here fast or we are as good as dead. But these people outside aren't going to be easy so I am going to serve as a distraction and when I do, you run as fast as you can and lock yourself in your room. That place is going to be an alibi for you."

And before she could process what Niall just whisper-yelled to her, he was out of the door. So she bolted too, almost getting shot by the 'mutants'' tasers as she found the boy already lying cold on the ground, with two mutants hovering above him while the third aimed at her. She couldn't help him, but eventually lost the mutant when he abruptly stopped at one of the green doors, letting her reach her room safely.

-------------------

Back in her room she knew she wasn't safe for long. They will find her soon, and everything would go downhill. She didn't know what to expect from this life situation she was stuck in. She doesn't remember her past, everything looks strangely familiar, but new at the same time, and her so called escape skills were not working.

She decided to get up from her sleeping position to find a hiding place , when she felt a pin prick on the back of her neck.

There, on the bed was the same chip that Zayn gave her and Wests had confiscated. But how did it reach her?

She tried to think if she had picked it up by mistake in the place where she was hiding or if Niall gave it her. Nothing made sense.

Then it clicked. Niall stuck it to her neck when he had dragged her earlier. In all the confusion she never noticed or felt it being there.

Aurora wanted to use it but she was scared. What if it attracted the mutants like how it had earlier? But she wasn't tracked anymore.

She placed the rectangular chip on her cabinet and it rotated on spot until abruptly stopping.

A red laser light emerged from the middle of the chip, scanning her the same way from head to toe. Silver liquid moved upwards from the chip towards the cabinet door taking a distinctive hexagonal shape of the mirror, coming to life where its edges gave a faint blue light.

This time her reflection was worse. She looked thinner and paler than the last time and and her skin looked dried and flakey. Her body was bruised giving her skin an abnormal bluish-purple color. Her hair, thin and brittle, showed a lot of her scalp, which was also bruised. She frowned. Her thin hospital gown was faded and dirty and was even torn in certain places.

If this is why mirrors were banned, then she was totally happy with not having to see herself. She must have been beautiful back when she didn't loose her memories, but now she was horrified. And her appearance was not the only reason.

She saw her own reflection changing expression and turning her head left, like she heard something. But Aurora's face still faced the mirror. She had not looked anywhere but the mirror, yet her reflection continued looking elsewhere. Aurora wasn't sure if it was her reflection anymore.

A big bang outside her door made Aurora look in the same direction as her reflection. Her reflection had looked at the door before she did.

She looked back at the mirror now and saw her 'reflection' hide under slot meant for the bed.

Another bang outside the door made her jump. She was shivering, not understanding what to do. As soon as she heard a robotic voice, she froze. Someone spoke to her but no one was there. She thought it was the girl in the mirror. But this time her reflection stared back at her with the same expression as herself.

Another bang on the door and the robotic voice came back. It was inside her head and it sounded like she was going crazy. It was static and monotonous, and a man's.

But the banging on the door grew louder with each passing second and the only thing she thought logical was to do what the voice asked her to:

"Aurora....Aurora...Hide...You need to hide....NOW!"
