The Prologue
"Hold her head up. Keep it elevated. Anne?! Anne are you home?!" he shouts for someone and at the same time the knob of the door bangs, hitting the wall and makes a loud clatter, multiple pairs of arms support my limp body as a makeshift bed of arms was made.
It feels as if I'm moving in slow motion while they're moving at the speed of light.
"What's all the noise about? Take your shoes off the-" a feminine voice starts but stops mid sentence.
"What's happened? Is she alright? Take her to the clinic!" she says calmly but concerned.
I'm set down on something cool, metal feeling table and a light shines in my eye.
"What's happened to this poor girl?" she says irritated and concerned, still shinning the flash light in my eye but in a different one.
There's a moment of harsh silence and then a irritated huff.
"Why don't we ask him, shall we?"
"We all know what happened."
"Be quiet."
"Everyone be quiet! " The woman raised her voice and there is silence again.
"I need to check her vitals, unconscious but responsive.""That's good right?" The deepest of the voices asks quietly.
I can hear everything around me but it's like I'm in a comfortable sleep. They speak around and I'll miss parts of their conversation and I'm confused due to lack of information.
"I bet it was them again. Shit like this only happens with them." One of the many faceless voices snaps and gets a delayed response we all take as a yes.
Except faint ticking I've been hearing since they started talking.
"That's not what happened she was holding her breath and just black out!" That same one yell in defense.
I'm so out of it, it feels like I'm on the outside listening in.
Another few moments of silence, except for the obnoxious ticking in the background.
Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick
"Is she alive even I haven't seen her move in a while?" another voice whispers.
"SHE'S DEAD!?" someone yells and I can just imagine myself rolling my eyes, cause I'm obviously not dead but at least they're concerned.
"No, she's not dead, I didn't kill her!" He yells and he sounds upset by the idea.
Tick tick tick
"What's her name?" The women sighs calmly and I can vaguely feel her touch my forehead.
"I've ..I've got no idea." Is said by one of the many voices.
Tick tick tick
"You don't know her name? What was even happening!?"
"I Don't know! I didn't even talk to her! I didn't know something like this could even happen! We just thought it't be a good laugh!" his voice is raised and frantic.
"We? Were you with those lot of delinquents again? Of course they would trick you into some stupid game and then leave you with the unconscious girl." Someone says and the other voice goes silent.
"Listen I don't know how this happened but she's nearly hypothermia and I need to ask her some questions so I need all of you to be quiet." The soothing calm of her voice is endearing and the room falls tranquil again.
"Sweetie? Sweetie can you hear me." the women's soft, calm voice calls and I'm slowly coming back.
TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK
The annoying ticking has gotten much louder.
I'm slowly but surely regaining consciousness.
Shit shit shit. No I'm not ready to face these people.
"She's waking up. Give her some room." She speaks softly.
I would have much rather woke up and left without having to be questioned and looked at like a stranger out of place.
I stand up as soon as I get a good look around the clean room and the group of people surrounding. And as soon as the insanely bright lights in here hit my eyes it makes my head a million times worse.
AND WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT TICKING!
I snap my head in the direction it's loudest.
Not a good idea; the room spins like a carousel on steroids.
"Honey what's you're name?" The woman with dark hair appears in front of me with a hand on my shoulder.
"It's um.." I don't even know I have a mind splitting headache, I can't even concentrate on the words coming out of my own mouth.
"It's uh...." I start but my body feels like I've got anchors tied to my ankles and blackout before I can finish.
"WILL IT STOP WITH THE TICKING!" someone yells as something is picked up and thrown, clattering against the floor.
But it continues to tick and the person responds with an agitated huff.
At least I wasn't the only one hearing it.
"Shit, get her!" Is the last thing I hear before I feel really warm arms grasp me and I loose complete consciousness.
Again.
