december 23rd

Today it basically hit everyone that Christmas was so close. It was a Saturday and the snow was still falling but not as heavy as it previously was, which meant everyone was out doing last minute Christmas shopping.

I spent the day in entirety with Grace and Lola, as we hadn't seen each other in a while. I didn't particularly talk about my own life but more about their families and what they were doing for Christmas. I tried to have fun, but I knew in the back of my mind that I had to say goodbye to someone that had become massive in my life in the past few weeks.

We finished up our meal at around ten p.m, and before they left Shawn burst into the apartment with oodles of colorful Christmas lights in his hands. Behind him was a couple of boxes too.

"Shawn?" I questioned when he walked into my apartment.

"He has a key?" Grace asked, "Where's mine?" she joked. Shawn looked confused at us both, then returned to his childlike smile. He was giddy with anticipation for whatever he was going to say.

"I realized that we have all become so miserable from the snow so I thought it would be in great spirit of us to decorate the apartment," he smiled, his eyes lighting up.

We all laughed as he tossed the strings of Christmas lights onto the floor and then closed the door behind him once he pushed the boxes in too.

Suddenly, I imagined someone walking in and seeing me as Joy from Stranger Things with the amount of lights that would be strung in my apartment.

"Well! What are you waiting for!" he shouted in a demanding voice. I put on some Christmas music and the four of us began stringing up lights left, right and center.

After a while, the girls continued as Shawn approached me from the other side of the apartment. Grace and Lola were decorating the kitchen side of the apartment.

"So?" he smiled.

"You're incredible," I gushed. I kissed him and wrapped my hands around his neck, diving my fingers into his long curls.

"I know, I know," he said sarcastically. His hands sat on both sides of my hips as we smiled at each other for a few moments.

He looked down at his watch and then released his grip from me.

"Merry Christmas Eve ladies," he exclaimed, throwing his hands out to the side.

I shook my head at the sass on the boy, and continued to hang up lights around the apartment.

We eventually finished around one a.m. and the girls swiftly left the apartment, turning their lights off on the way out. Shawn and I continued to stand together and slow dance to the music on the speaker.

The song was White Christmas. We stood and swayed together for the entire song. The whole apartment had little twinkling lights all over the roof. The whole apartment lit up and looked so beautiful from the floor. I rested my head on his shoulder as we swayed.

When the song finished we moved to the bed and both just lay there under the sheets in silence. My head rested on his chest and I could hear his heartbeat fastening every time I shifted on his skin.

Our hands were interlinked on the top of the duvet as his thumb stroked the back of my hand.

Neither of us spoke.

"What do you want to do tomorrow?" he asked, kissing the back of my ear.

I don't know what I wanted to do on our last day together ever Shawn. I don't know. Don't ask me.

"Just whatever comes we go with I guess," I mumbled. I turned over into his chest and put my left leg in between his two for comfort. I let go of his hand and lay simply on his chest. His hand ran over my back and in my hair, comforting me to sleep. The duvet covered me entirely.

I climbed up his chest and left one soft kiss on his lips which caught him by surprise as he began to fall asleep.

"Goodnight Shawn," I whispered.

"Night love," he whispered back, this time barely inaudible.

I shifted back down to his chest and let myself fall asleep.

Before I knew it this would all be over.
