The carriage on the Hogwarts Express Draco Malfoy sat in was empty. No other Slytherins came back after the war. Many had died. Some were in Azkaban and others did not feel that they would be welcomed back into the school after Voldemort's demise, with good reason.
Draco didn't feel welcomed either, even after both Mcgonagall and Potter's reassurances that things would be changed for the better this year. His father was imprisoned in Azkaban for following the Dark Lord, his mother and himself barely escaping. His friends were either dead or at home with their families.
Draco Malfoy was alone in his compartment. Alone with his thoughts and demons.
Y/N walked down the corridor, trying to glimpse the blonde hair of the only Slytherin left. After passing many compartments, he found the one he was looking for, right at the end of the train. He slid open the door and stepped inside, closing it behind him.
"Draco Malfoy." Y/N said, the name of the boy in front of him rolling off his tongue.
Draco looked up to see the person invading his space and thoughts.
"What do you want?" Malfoy sighed. "Come to make fun of the Death Eater, have you?"
Y/N studied him in shock. He had been at school with Draco for years and had seen his changes, from annoying little boy to brooding man. But in all the time he had known him, he never had seen the Slytherin look so defeated.
"No." Y/N said quietly, eyes drinking in the broken figure before him.
"The names Y/L/N. Y/N Y/L/N. " he said, extending his hand out to the blonde as Draco had done eight years ago to Harry Potter. Where it all began.
Draco stared at the hand for a moment before bringing his own hand up to shake it.
