Y/N had stayed in Draco's compartment for the rest of the journey, and Draco was enjoying his company. It was nice not to have to worry about anything for the few short hours. However as the boys had changed into their robes and they got nearer to Hogwarts, the tension rose again. All kinds of thoughts drifted though Draco's mind, and when the train came to a stop there was one question he had to ask.

"Will we talk?" He muttered loud enough for Y/N to hear.

"If you want to." Y/N replied smoothly, and a ghost of a smile appeared on the Slytherin's face.

The two left the compartment in silence, each happy with their agreement. They were in the same year, and would have classes together. And as Draco would probably have a harder time that year due to his alliances in the war, he wouldn't be gaining many friends this year.

Draco and Y/N were approaching the carriages when they both saw them at the same time. Skeletal horses, with wings, pulling the horses. Y/N stepped back slightly at the sight of them, and only years of seeing rather unseeable things stopped Draco from doing the same.

"What the bloody hell is that?" Y/N asked, a look of horror on his face, and Draco thought back to a lesson he never thought he would need. He remembered an invisible being eating meat out of seemingly thin air, and thought back to what Hagrid had said.

"Threstrals can only be seen by those who have seen death." He told the other boy, and realization dawned upon him.

"The war." he said, and the impact of the damage down was immediately in their minds. How many first years might be able to see these creatures if they had any wizarding relatives? How many second and third year students? And how many sixth and seventh years, the ones who fought against Voldemort and the Death Eaters. How many of them had seen friends and family die within that time.

Potter.

Harry Potter had probably been able to seen them for a while. Even if he couldn't remember his parents' deaths, Cedric Diggory's would have definitely been able to make him see the skeletal beings. And so would Granger and Weasley, with how close the trio were with each other. They had surely seen someone die, even before Weasley's older brother had. And they were the faces of light for so many people in a time of dark, when Dumbledore had died. Even though nobody but them had known where they were, people had hoped they were finding a way to defeat Voldemort. And they had. Even though Longbottom had killed the snake, Granger, Weasley and Potter had been the hope of the war for months, and everyone had the right to hope for them as they had followed through. Draco felt respect for them coursing through him. He didn't always like them, but they had been doing so much good for the Wizarding world, and Potter helped defend him and his mother.

And he had been nothing but rude to the man for 6 years.

Y/N tapped Draco on the shoulder, and the boy opened the door before stepping in. Hogwarts may not be his home, but it was better than the Manor any day.
