Chapter 13-

Finnick and I walked for hours in the woods. The vivid green of the forest seemed to be the only color I could remember. Seeing so much of it was starting to give me headaches. I was finally glad when the sun started dipping down into sunset. Finn wasn't doing too good though. He was still limping from earlier, his leg dragging behind him.

"Finnick we should stop. We're far enough away to take a little break." I tell him. He doesn't answer and keeps walking. "Finnick!" I exclaim, grabbing his arm and turning him to face me. I won't let him just ignore me, not now.

"We can't stop," He says, his eyes looking into the distance, "We need to get further, somewhere safe." He points vaguely off into the distance.

"We have to stop, you look so tired. You need a rest we're far enough away we're safe Finn." I try to convince him, a sad smile on my face. He shakes his head, his curly sandy blonde hair going everywhere. When he stop his eyes look less distant, and more tired.

"Yeah, alright. A rest sounds good. We can gather our weapons, find some food, take a nap then head forwards." Finnick sighs, rubbing his hand over his face. I can tell he's very tired. After surveying our small area, Finnick places himself down on a log. He lays a couple tridents and a net beside him and takes the backpack off his shoulders and places it in front of him. I take a seat next to him, close enough so our sides touch, and lean my head on his shoulder. He adjusts to put his arm around me.

"You wanna open it up and look at all the goodies we got?" He asks, he gives me a lazy smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes. I force a smile back and unzip the bag.

"We've got two stacks of crackers a a small tub of peanut butter. Yummy. One thermos," I pop open the lid, "With some weird packets in it." I hand the thermos to Finnick to investigate.

"Water purification stuff. At least we won't die from infection." Finn laughs. I feel chills run through me at the mention of death. I guess Finn feels it, cause he gives me a squeeze. "I didn't mean to scare you, sorry sis."

"It's okay. I know." I frown and continue looking through our items. "There's a compass. Not sure how much that will help. A small box of matches. Rope, feels strong. There's also this wool thing. Loos like a blanket." I say pulling the last of our items out.

"That's it?" Finnick sighs.

"Guess so." I pick up a knife Finn gave me while we were walking and start playing with it in my hands.

"Nothing for wounds?" Finnick asks. I shake my head and hold my hand on the wet cloth over my forehead. He looks around on the ground and pulls up a couple of green leaves. He let's out a yawn, covering his mouth. He's too tired to be doing anything.

"We should sleep, I don't want you to be disoriented." I say.

"Alright then. I guess we can climb one of these trees." He says looking around. I stand and turn toward him. His eyelids are barely able to stay open as he plays with the leaves. At least I'm not that tired.

"I'll go scout around for one and you stay here." I say, gripping my knife.

"No!" Fear flashes through his eyes as he rushes to stand up, grimacing as his knee buckles.

"Finnick!" I exclaim rushing to help him sit back down.

"No, I can't let you go alone. It's too dangerous." He says, pleading with his eyes.

"I'll be fine. I have my knife. I can take care of myself." I state.

"I know you can, but this isn't the woods back home sweetie." He says.

"What are you so scared of? I won't go far, I promise." I cross my heart.

"That's not it Prim. That's not why you can't go alone. I believe in you and know you're strong but you're only twelve. You've never killed a person. These people, they arent like you and me. These people are experienced killers. They don't think twice about this stuff and that gives them an advantage over us. You want to know what I was going to tell you in the elevator? More than half the tributes in these games have been trained by their districts and hand selected by the Capitol with one purpose and one purpose only." Finnick has a painful glint in his eyes as he continues to tell me. I can feel my heart racing quicker.

"Stop it you're scaring me." I whimper, not wanting to hear any more. He reaches out his hand to touch my face but I dodge it. I can feel my body trembling in fear.

"These tributes have been trained to kill us."
