Chapter 1-

An old face.

I was still sleeping, yet half awake. My brother was jumping up and down on my bed and singing a song from ages ago.

"10 little monkeys jumping on the bed! One fell of and bumped his-" I grabbed my pillow and pulled it on top of my head. This only caused him to sing louder. "9 LITTLE MONKEYS JUMPING ON THE BED! ONE FELL OFF AND BUMPED HIS HEAD!" I had enough. My hand grasped the pillow and threw it at him. He fell off the bed and tears formed in his eyes.

"Mommy!" he hollered. "Prim is being meany again!" he ran downstairs hollering and crying.

My 5 year old brother is so annoying. I didn't even ask for him. My mom and dad just decided the house was too big for our small family, or so I think. I hop out of bed as fast as I can and go the slam the door. When my brother called for my mom I never got off good. I was to late though.

"Primrose Rue Mellark." my mother was standing right over me. "What have you done this time?"

"Well, you see, I was......"

"And I dont want any lies. You could save more time by just telling the truth."

I sighed,"I was just, you know. Barler was jumping on the bed again. And singing!"

My mother rubbed this place above her eyebrow, where she always does for some reason.

"ok, I'll talk to him about it. But you don't have to be so harsh. He's only 5, and your the older one." she walks back downstairs. "Oh! And breakfast is ready. Come on down when your all done." she turns back around and walks away.

First i brush my dark hair, which looks just like my mothers. My eyes however are just as crystal blue as my fathers. Then I head downstairs.

"Look who's here! Sleeping beauty!" my dad walks over and spins me around. I squeal happily.

"Dad! Put me down!" I laugh.

"ok, ok. Guess what's for breakfast." he smiles. My mom snorts since it isn't hard to guess.

"hmmm.............is it, rolls?"

"Right you are kido!" my dad hands me a roll and I bite into it. My dad is the best baker I know. He even owns the bakery in town. Not one unsatisfied costumer.

"Great as always!" I stuff the rest of the roll in my mouth and walk towards the hunting closet. Its where we keep all the things we need for hunting. I grab the bow and sheath of arrows that suits me the best. It was made by my granfather, who died a long time before I was born. About when my mom was my age. I cant imagine surviving without dad. I don't know how she lived. I tiptoed to the door.

"Prim? Where are you going?" my mother asked from the kitchen. So close.

"Hunting?" I questioned.

"Be very careful, ok?"

"Ok!" I ran out the door and continued to the meadow. But not before looking at the large graveyard. My mother told me one day I would understand. I wish she would tell me now.

Slowly, I slip myself under the broken up fence. It used to be electrocuted a couple hours a day. Now, it does nothing but keep wild animals inside. I sighed and breathed in the musty air. I felt myself here. Not that I wasn't in there.

I trudge up to a large hill and am almost up to the top when I stop in my tracks. Someone is already there. I hold my breath and stand frozen, paralyzed with fear. What should I do? I don't know. I decide to slowly make my way backwards.
