Evan awoke to the sun filtering through his window, his eyes fluttering open as he went over to it to open the curtains to reveal his glorious tree. He smiled, waving through the window to his one and only.

Quickly getting ready, he hurried out of his bed to his backyard.

Evan's tree was already waiting for him, its glorious oak leaves stretching out to the sky. He picked up one of the many acorns it had dropped and kissed it.

"You're so beautiful," Evan whispered, like he had done every day for the past sixteen years of his life. The seed was planted the day he was born.

A bird sang from inside his beautiful tree, and Evan glared in its direction. He always wanted the tree for himself.

Though he probably had neighbors around who were still sleeping, Evan shouted at the bird angrily, and a few quickly fluttered out of the tree, leaves flying everywhere.

"Shut up, treehugger!" A voice sounded from the house next to his, and Evan glared in their direction too.

"That's right," he said, smiling and turning to his beloved tree when his neighbor had stopped complaining. "I am a treehugger," he whispered, wrapping his arms around the plant.

"Don't listen to what they say. They're just jealous."

The tree kept its blissful silence, but Evan didn't mind.
