The tree was frustrated at its lack of ability to speak to Evan, but quietly provided him shade as an act of love.

"I have to go to school soon," Evan told it. "I wish I could stay here with you, or bring you with me, but I can't. Trees aren't allowed."

The tree couldn't move anyway. It wouldn't turn out too well.

It dropped a few acorns from its large branches, and Evan suddenly brightened. "Oh! That's a great idea! I'll bring some acorns with me." He picked up the seeds and put them in his pocket. "I'll cherish these forever." The tree was a bit sad they didn't have a piece of Evan to keep with it, but that was okay. Evan would have a piece of it.

"Okay, I'm gonna go, or I'll be late," Evan told it. "Bye!" And with that, he hurried back inside, leaving the tree to sadly be alone again. It wished they could come with him, or at least say goodbye back to him, but to its dismay could still say nothing, and watched as Evan boarded the bus and went off to school.

"I'll be out of school someday," Evan had told it earlier. "Then I'll be with you. I've been told I should go to college, but I'm not about to leave you for even longer. Don't worry. It won't be too long."
