ONESHOT - Modern AU
Words: 1624Last minute plans were hell, certainly on Christmas eve. Your parents didn't got home in time for the big Christmas eve dinner so they asked you to do the start up some dinner preparations with the hopes they would make it, what meant you needed to go in this snow to the store first. Hvitserk leaned against the kitchen counter, eating cereals while he followed you with your eyes.
'Babe, they won't make it with this bad weather, some plains don't even fly.' He said. You looked up from the ingredients on the list to where he stood eating.
'What if they come and I don't have a thing to offer?' You signed in despair. He placed the bowl aside and walked over to you.
'What if, I ask my brothers that we can go celebrate with them? If your parents make it they would happy to have them.'
'Ivar won't.'
'It's not up to Ivar.' Hvitserk smiled, sneaking his hands around your waist. You took a deep breath, snuggling your head against his chest.
'Fine.' You muttered.
'The only thing you have to do is get a presents and prepare something small.' He muttered against your hair. You pulled back and looked up to him, smiling softly to him.
'Savior.'
'Hardly, but I need to work otherwise I would drive you around. Be safe on the road.' He said, kissing your nose. You patted his chest and pulled back, looking how he pulled his jacket on, pushing an apple between his teeth.
'Don't be to late.' You warned him. He looked over his shoulder, that charming smile brightening your stressful morning.
Your parents couldn't make it, which meant you would have Christmas eve with the Lothbrok sons, first time for everything right? You were little more then six months together with Hvitserk and it still felt like it was yesterday that he kissed you for the first time. You bought some small gifts, mostly alcohol, and something to make a small dish to not show up empty handed. You walked back into the apartment when you noticed the wooden box on the table, it had a red bow around it. You frowned, putting down your bags before walking to the table. The box had a number lock and there was a note laying down before it. You recognized Hvitserk his handwriting immediately. You read it out loud, like you usual do.
- 'Y/n, when you read this you are back from shopping and you are home safely. In this box waits a present for you. But knowing me you don't get it for free, you need to crack the lock first. On the town square there is that giant Christmas tree, in one of the balls is the code you need. Good luck ... btw, still love you.' - You lowered the note and looked back to the box for a second. You bite your lip and suppressed a major smile as you took the box, feeling it's heaviness. It wasn't all that heavy so you grabbed your jacket and raced outside. You couldn't ignore the exciting feeling in your stomach as you carefully walked through all the snow towards town square. It wasn't a long walk but when you saw the Christmas tree with all his balls you swallowed slightly. They were all red and silver, major bows and a silver spike on top. You squeezed your eyes together against the snow and scouted the tree for something abnormal. It took you around ten minutes, walking around that tree before you noticed a golden ball hanging just hanging out of reach. You started looking around for something to stand on and found a man ceiling small gifts with crates.
'Can I borrow this for a sec?' You asked, not waiting for his permission as you took it and run back to the tree.
'Hey lady!' He yelled behind you. You jumped on it and grabbed the golden ball. You jumped back of and studied the ball, seeing how you could open it. There was a note inside, with one number on top. You started reading again.
- 'You really thought it would be so easy? This is the first number to the lock. The rest is at your apartment, somewhere hidden. Don't roll your eyes and just admit you are having fun.' - You stopped reading and rolled your eyes, chuckling because he was right, this was fun.
Home you looked around to something out of the ordinary. But everything was perfect on place. You started pulling everything open and upside down but still you found nothing. So you took a warm chocolate and sat down, staring down to the wooden box while thinking of good hiding spots. Hvitserk came often over and the only thing he really did in all that time was mostly eating.
'Food.' You muttered, looking over to the fridge before you jumped up, smiling like an idiot by the thought. You had a secret hiding place for your sweets, because he eat them always. You walked into the bedroom and flattened yourself on the ground, grabbing the little box hidden behind a bigger one. You opened it and noticed empty chocolate bars and a note.
- 'You really thought I wouldn't know this hiding spot? I loved the chocolate, and the candy, thanks babe. The third and fourth number are together, promise. But for that you to look through the last thing we did together. Hope you can count.' – Last thing you did together. You pushed up, looking confused down to the note ... looking through the last thing you did together. You saw each other yesterday for dinner but how could you look through that. You walked back to the table with the box, sitting down while gazing at the note, thinking about whatever he was referring to. You didn't saw him much this week except for last weekend, the ice skating ... ice skating. You slowly looked over to your laptop. He send you a video last week, you falling more then once and him laughing at you. You opened the file and looked at it but there was nothing that stated the last two numbers to the code. You repeated it, counting the times he filmed your fall, four times. Your eyes went to the lock on the box, watching that video again, with sound.
"If you fall two more times I'm gonna make you follow lessons." He had laughed at you, grabbing your hands to help you around. You never ice skated before so maybe you really should take those lessons.
'Four and two.' You muttered, pushing your laptop aside to grab the box. You gave the first two numbers in and then the numbers out of the video but it didn't open. You switched the two last number and squealed when it unlocked.
You were so exciting, removing the lock and opening the box, only to find a key and another note.
'Hvitserk.' You cursed for yourself, this wasn't a present. You opened the note and signed when you saw his handwriting again.
- 'Congratulations Y/n! This key is to a box you will find on the first place we met."- that was it. You grabbed your phone and called him, but it went straight to voicemail. If he was planning on doing this all day you would kill him for all his brothers to see. Still, you grabbed your coat again and walked out, exactly knowing where to go. You and Hvitserk met each other over food. Every morning you grabbed a coffee and pastry out your favorite bakery, that day it was one with white powder on top of it. Walking around the corner you walked right into him, in some weird way he could safe the coffee from burning you as it felt on the ground. But the pastry, it left a white mark all over your black coat. It was a funny way of meeting and you smiled because of the memory. He bought you a new coffee that day and it was the begin of everything. When you arrived on that exact corner it didn't took long before he walked out of the bakery, with that coffee and exact same pastry.
'Hvitserk.' You sounded judging. He smiled his innocents and handed you the coffee. You showed him the key.
'It's to my place.' He nodded. You frowned your eyebrows, you already had a key to his place, which you loved by the way. In all your excitement you didn't even recognize the key, but you had a lot of keys so ...
'You gonna say I went through all that trouble just to have a second key to your place?' You asked him confused.
'No, I want you to move in.' He explained. Your jaw dropped, looking up from the key to his deadly serious face.
'For real?' You asked stunned.
'I love you, why not. Please say yes.' He sounded a little insecure on the end and you shook your head, as if you had to wake up out of a dream.
'Yes! Offcourse yes.' You nodded, smiling up to him. 'Why are you even doubt that.'
'Well, you know me.' He smiled. You wrapped your arm with the coffee carefully over his shoulders.
'All this trouble for this question?'
'No, I went through all this trouble for this.' He pointed up. You looked up only to see a mistletoe hanging. 'To trick you under the mistletoe.' He smiled. You looked back to him, biting your lip.
'I love you.' You confessed. He pressed his lips against yours and for that you kissed him the first time ... in the snow ... under the mistletoe.
