Melvin paced in front of the door that stood ominously before him. The words "Arthur Pendron: Acting Associate"  made a solid imprint in his mind.

Just an hour ago Gwen Railey had given him an entire history of the place he was about to start working at, as well as a full mention of all of his duties. He had introduced himself to Gregory Litt, had signed all the forms, and gotten a cubicle scarily close to Arthur's office.

According to Gwen, the Pendron family had a monopoly on the firm. Ulysses had built the place from the ground up, and ensured that his children were on top with him. His children, A.K.A, Arthur and Morgan.

Melvin tried to remind himself why he was here. He had worked through law school to get to where he was now. This was the profession that he loved and was good at.

Nothing comes easy, he thought to himself, and with a final flourish, opened the door.
