Chapter 4:

RRRRRRRRINNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG

My eyes snapped open when I heard that noice. It took me few seconds to figure out that was coming from my cellphone. I relaxed.

I looked at the digital clock on the table by my bed. It’s just 9 in the morning. I don’t like waking up early on Sunday…only day I get off at work.

I answered the phone without looking at the caller ID.

“What?” I snapped at whoever was calling me.

“Well, somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed today” said my life long best friend, Emily.

“Sorry and actually, I haven’t completely woke up yet. You know I am not a morning person” I said in a calm tone but a little mad.

“I know and I’m sorry but you know how I am, happy and active. Let’s do something today, Ani. It’s not every day that you get a warm weather in RichFord” she said in a happy tone.

RichFord is a small town where sunny weather is rare occasion. It is always raining in RichFord. But that doesn’t mean it’s cold all the time, sometimes it’s hot and raining.

“Fine but you decide what to do” I said. I don’t get really good ideas when I am half sleeping.

“Actually I already have decided. We should go hiking” she said. She loves to walk.

“Fine. I will be ready in an hour” I said getting up from the bed.

“I will be there in 20 minutes actually but don’t worry, I have a spare key of you house, remember?” she said. I gave her my house key just in case something happens and she gave her house key to me. She lives like 30 minutes far from my house.

“Yes I remember. I gave it to you. I am gonna go and get ready” I said. I disconnected my cellphone.

I got up and went to the bathroom and did my usual stuff. The whole time I had a smile on my fine until everything that happened yesterday night came back to me. That surely took away my smile. I was still confused about that.

My thoughts were interrupted when I heard my front door opening. I tensed for few seconds then I thought it must be Emily.

“Em, is that you?” I said loudly as I turned off the shower.

“No, it’s you stalker, of course, it’s me” Emily said with sarcasm. We both laughed.

I got dressed fast and then I got out of bathroom. I spotted Emily sitting on my bed and texting someone. She has dark brown hair just like me and she has average height just like me. But she has green eyes. Sometimes people think we are sisters because we look alike. We do look alike but only little but still people think that.

“Who are you texting?” I asked.

“Adrian” she said with sad tone.

“I thought you broke up with him” I said.

“He broke up with me. He thought I was cheating on him with Brandon but I wasn’t” she replied with a frown.

“I know you didn’t cheat on him. I trust you” I said. I went over to her and hugged her.

We were like that for few minutes. She even started to crying.

“Stop crying, Adrian is not worth it” I said calming her down. It worked.

“Okay, changing topic. What about breakfast?” she said with a smile on her face but she was still a little sad.

“Well I was thinking we eat breakfast at Mame’s. They make those amazing pancakes that I love” I said.

Mame is my favorite place to eat. They have everything I love. They have delicious food, if you eat their food once then you would never forget.

“You are right. Okay then let’s go” she said happily.

(After 45 minutes)

We were done eating breakfast and then we drove to the starting point of the famous forest of RichFord. This is a really deep forest. Some people even said that there are some creatures living in this forest and they will hurt you but only if you go really deep. On the out, it can be a great place to hike. Well, this forest has some big mountains but they are surrounded by so many trees.

“We will not go far inside the forest, got it?” I said in a calm voice.

“Yes, mam” she said and then we both laughed. She can be so childish sometimes but she is a great friend. She is loyal and sweet and caring. She is really a nice person.

And then we started hiking. Emily was next to me. We were talking and walking at a same time.

(30 minutes later)

I was listening to my iPod and Emily was talking to Adrian on her cell phone. I didn’t want to hear their conversation because when Emily gets mad, you don’t even want to hear her talk. She says some really bad words. She is still mad at Adrian about the whole cheating thing. To prevent myself from hearing her talk, I turned up my volume of the song. I was listening to ‘Bring me to life’ by Evanescence. It’s a beautiful song.

I don’t know how much time went by but I think we were pretty deep inside the forest. I looked next to me where Emily was.  Now I don’t see anyone next to me. Immediately, I looked around me trying to find her but I couldn’t. Oh no. It’s entirely my fault. If I had paid attention to her, she wouldn’t be lost. What am I going to do?

I hear a howl coming from behind me. I am so scared. Slowly, I turn back and I see…
