House of initiation

Lunch was tense after this mornings disaster, Jerome was arguing with Mara

"Mara I still really like you, why won't you take me back?"

"Because you two timed, plus Mick and I are going to try dating again. He's trying to get his sports degree early like Amber so that he can come back here."

"Mick is coming back? I don't know if I can face him again." Amber said

"Amber you'll be fine." Nina reassured her

"Yeah, just think of Mick as your best friend." Fabian added

Nina glared at Fabian "Yeah, best mates."

"Okay, this is getting awkward." Amber said looking around the table, everyone seemed to be in a bad mood.

"You think?" Mara added

"Fine Mara, I guess I lost this one. Ruby-Olivia can we talk, in private?" Jerome asked me

"Um sure." I replied and followed him out the room and into the closet in the hall

"Why are we in the closet?" I asked as Jerome closed the door

"We need to make sure nobody can hear us."

"Is it about getting in Sibuna? Jerome I told you I'm working on it."

'No it's kind of more important."

"Is it Mara? I don't think I can change her mind about you"

"No, it's about what Eddie drew the other day."

"Anubis?"

"I found something about Anubis, I found an old article that said every hundred years the god Anubis gets his revenge on Osiris for taking his place as god of the dead and feeds the Osirians soul to Ammit."

"Ammit?"

"Eater of the dead."

"So, Anubis is going to come for Eddie?"

"Yeah, and Osiris is trying to warn him."

"You need to tell Eddie."

"I can't do that, then they'll know we've been spying on them."

"And they'll have to let us in Sibuna."

"What if they don't because of me?" Jerome sat down with his head in his hands "I can't let you down, all I've ever done is let people down."

I sat next to him on the hard floor "You won't."

"You need to get in Sibuna, maybe I should let you do this on your own."

"No! I can't do this without you Jerome, you know more about Sibuna than I do." I pulled his hands away and forced him to look at me "Jerome, I need you."

JEROME'S POV

"Jerome I need you." She whispered

I couldn't let her down, she was special like the chosen one and Osirian. She needed to be in Sibuna and I wasn't helping. Ruby was special. She was the only one who knew the real me, instead if ignoring it and pegging me as the troublemaker like everybody else.

"I'm not getting you anywhere."

"Jerome that doesn't matter. What matters is that you don't make me do this in my own, you're really smart and you deserve to be part of the mysteries."

I wasn't smart though, I was a nobody. But if Ruby needed me I wasn't going to say no

"Fine."

"Thank you, now let's go see if we can get in Sibuna"
