Beep. Beep. Beep. I slammed my hand down on the snooze button on my alarm clock. Ow! How can it already be time to get up? Glancing over at the face of the clock, I realize that it's already 7:15 am. Crap! I must have already hit snooze quite a few times because I had set it for 6am.

Crawling out of my warm bed, I notice that Ashley is already up and dressed. I am running so far behind! Orientation starts at 8am.

"Morning sleepy head!" Ashley greets me. Man, she is really awake and chirpy for early in the morning.

Yawning, I mumble in response, "Good morning." I have never been a morning person and I guess now that I'm in college nothing has changed either.

Grabbing a clean towel out of my dresser drawer, I make my way to the bathroom to take my shower. Since I woke up so late, I guess I will be throwing my hair up into a messy bun because I don't have time to wash it. Speaking of hair, I have thick brown curly hair, so it is not a walk in the park to wash.

As it nears to be 7:45, I somehow am fully dressed and semi presentable for orientation today.

Strutting out of the bathroom, Ashley appears stunning. She is wearing a flowy, off the shoulder, blue and yellow flower-patterned blouse with a pair of capris-length black leggings. Completing the outfit, she slipped on a pair of navy blue flats that matches her top. Of course, to top it off, she has a gold anchor chain necklace around her neck. Glancing at her blonde locks of hair, I noticed that she had done some loose barrel curls to add a little extra volume to it.

After I saw Ashley, I suddenly felt under dressed. Because of my lack of time this morning. I had just pulled on a light pink V-neck t-shirt which I paired with my dark blue jean shorts and white converse. Lastly, I had spent almost zero time on my hair by just throwing it up into a messy bun.

"You ready to head down for orientation?" Ashley inquires while I had examined her appearance.

"As ready as I ever will be. I thought you said that you weren't looking forward to doing all of the team building exercises today? Why would you spend so much time dressing up for it then?" I politely respond to her.

She sighs. "Well I'm not, but I am looking forward to the college experience. In order to get the full college experience, orientation is part of it. Also, I would like to make a good first impression on our new classmates," she explained.

"Oh, I see," I said.

Making our way down to the admissions center, Ashley and I became more acquainted with each other. I learned that she has done track and field since sixth grade. When she started her senior year, she started applying for scholarships and ended up receiving one for track and field, so she's continuing to participate in it in college too. As she participated in track and field, she also did cheerleading and was a straight A student throughout high school. Throughout her academic career, she took many honors and advanced placement level courses where she met her boyfriend, Tanner. They have been together for three years now and plan on staying together throughout college. As her and Tanner began applying for colleges, they realized that it wasn't going to work out for them to attend the same University, so they ended up apart. He attends a school that's about an hour away from ours.

Hearing a lot about her high school career, I really was unsure of what to say about mine. Me? What was so special about mine? I was an honors and AP student too, but I didn't get straight As. Different clubs and activities were more of my forte because I was never too great at sports. During my freshman and sophomore year, I performed in my high school's band. We did pep band, marching band, and concert band. Since I played the clarinet, I never joined jazz band because that would have required me to learn another instrument. My band director never allowed clarinets in our jazz band unless there was a specific part for them in one of the songs that he choose. But after my sophomore year, I decided that band just wasn't for me anymore, so I quit. Other clubs that I did participate in were debate and speech, which I absolutely loved. This year I plan on joining the university's speech and debate team.
