CHAPTER 2

I looked around before heading off and getting some sleep. Just then, I heard sniffling. Was someone crying? I walked around to a corner where someone was obviously hiding, crying his eyes out. The boy looked around 16 or 17 years old. I walked up to him and plopped down, sitting next to him, looking up at the sky.

The silence went on for longer than I could stand, but I sat there patiently, waiting to see if he wanted to talk. The boy had quieted down by now, but his tears were obviously still pouring out and occasional sniffles filled the quiet night.

Finally, I couln't stand just sitting there anymore. I scooted closer to the boy and laid my head on his shoulder, closing my eyes. At first, the boy seemed surprised, but he didn't push me away, so I assumed it was okay. The boy seemed to be sobbing with his head burried in his palms for quite some time before he quieted down and matched his breathing to mine. He seemed much calmer now. The boy laid his head ontop of mine, which startled me quite a bit, but I let it go.

"H-Hey.." He finally said, looking up at the sky.

"Hey" I replied, opening my eyes with my head still on his shoulder. Then, I chuckled at the thought of how ironic this was; I was leaning on his shouler, when I came to lend him mine. The boy sat up, looking confused as to why I was laughing all of a sudden. "I'm sorry" I replied, still smiling. "It's just.. how ironic is this? I came to give you a shoulder to cry on and here I am, leaning against yours"

"My name's Newt" The boy smiled for the first time since we met.
