Alright Arden, calm yourself down. I swiftly brush my fingers through my hair and gulped a huge amount of air. I head straight to the elevators on the right side of the lobby. I start taking huge steps towards the gleaming elevator doors when I suddenly remember that I don't even know what floor the Wong Fu office is. Great, what is happening to you Arden?! Get your shit together!
I turn around and make my way to the front desk where a surly, middle-aged woman with round glasses is yelling furiously at the receiver.
"Ugh, no! I clearly said cheeseburger without mayo and cheese because I am allergic to dairy! What part of NO FUCKING MAYO and NO FUCKING CHEESE did you not understand?! I don't care if it is called a CHEESEBURGER and by technicality it should have CHEESE. I DON'T WANT CHEESE ON MY CHEESEBURGER! You better watch out for my review on Yelp!"
She slams the phone down which made my heart jump. Oh, wow. This woman is scary. So she's the only person manning the front desk? Don't I have other choices here? I mean, I guess I am not the only one who's having a bad morning so far. Also, who orders a cheeseburger for breakfast?
She looks at me and for a brief moment we silently look at each other. I smile nervously.
"Can I help you with something or are you just going to smile weirdly at me for the rest of the morning 'coz honestly miss, I really don't have the patience nor the energy to guess what you need." She leans back to her swivel chair without breaking her gaze.
My smile freezes. Damnit, whoever put mayo and cheese on her cheeseburger should be fired. I try smiling again but I'm pretty sure it's become something like a wince.
"Yeah, sorry about that. I just want to know where the Wong Fu office is." This time, I smile widely. She just might fall for my charms.
"Oh, you're here for the audition. 10th floor, second door to your left." She says in a condescending tone, proceeds to look at me from top to bottom, then scoffs.
My mouth falls. The nerve of this woman! My parents always told me to be the better person but no, not me today, woman! You don't get a free pass to be rude just because your demands, and I must say irrational demands, were not met by the restaurant crew!
"Excuse me?! What was that all about? Ma'am, I know why you are probably upset today but part of your job here is to deal with various people in the kindest way possible. You are supposed to extend help and entertain visitors in a respectful manner. You made me feel like shit just because you feel that way today. Well, let me tell you, you better watch out for my review on Yelp!" I storm off and make my way to the elevator doors once again.
"Joke's on you, miss, we're not on Yelp!" The woman laughs.
Oh, you fucking bitch! I complete a 180 degree turn to face the evil receptionist once again but suddenly a hand reaches out and gently pulls me back. I turn my head sharply.
A tall Asian guy is staring at me intently and is holding my arm.
He smiles and suddenly, everything slows down.
