"Anna, are you okay?" Lauren asked softly as the two of them walked away from the park with jack and Honey trotting beside them. "You've been really quiet since you say thy guy at the park."
Anna released a low sigh. "I know and I'm sorry. I just... he doesn't understand what it's like to have a mother in another country, fighting some war that shouldn't involve her." The younger blonde scrapped her fingers through her hair. "I don't even know if she's still alive. She never called me to wish me a happy birthday." Anna swallowed. "I just feel so useless."
"Anna..." Lauren said softly. She reached out and trailed her fingers gently down Anna's cheek. "You aren't useless. You're prefect in every single way."
"Nobody is perfect, except maybe you and especially not me." Anna mumbled.
"Oh trust me I'm far from perfect." Lauren said.
Anna shook her head as she looked up at Lauren. "I don't believe you."
"Really, do you not read the news?" Lauren asked. "There is so many things that people have said about me but half of them aren't true."
"I don't have time to read the news. I have my family to look after. Kelsey and Jason are no help and Jasper is only home for three months a year." Anna admitted.
"How long have you been living with them?" Lauren asked gently.
"About a year and Mum has never called once." Anna looked down at her feet nervously. "I really miss her."
Lauren's eyes softened and her heart ached. She pulled Anna by the shoulders into a gentle hug, sawing them. They stayed like that for a long time.
