The Quest of The Sword

Chapter 3.2

There was a strange stench in the air when Zara and Chase entered the house. Zara was scared to go in but she gathered some courage and entered. She walked through the small passage with chase behind her. She didn't know why her mother was out of breath when she had called her. There had been a shattering noise and Diane screamed and Zara could hear the static indicating that the line had been cut. They silently walked into the living room. The room was a mess like someone just had a fight. She moved further in.

And what she saw was her nightmare come true.

Diane and Melvin, her parents were lying in a pool of blood. Their own blood.

Seeing this she instantly broke down. she ran over and shook her father's lifeless body. "Wake up, Dad! Wake up!", she screamed. She knew that her efforts were futile but she just couldn't believe it. Her dad was looking so happy before she was leaving. She had hugged him goodbye and in return he'd lovingly ruffled her hair. She cried even harder now.

She tried to pull her self together and crawled to her mother's still figure lying on the ground. "Mom. Wake up please", she cried. She couldn't bear seeing her parents. What had they done to deserve this? Chase had come to sit beside her. He hugged her and Zara sobbed heavier than ever.

"Zara".

Zara realized whom the voice belonged to and quickly pulled back from the hug to look at her mother. "Mom, who did this to you", she asked. Zara was furious now.

"Shhhh", Diane huffed. "I don't have much time; let me speak."

Zara nodded and her mother continued, "There are two envelopes in the locker". Diane was struggling for breath but she continued,"The first one has two boxes with chains in them and a chit with an address. You and Chase deliver the second envelope and don't lose the chains. Wear them. give the envelope to Nathaniel Thornheart and tell him it's from Diane Scarletwound".

Diane Scarletwound? That's not my mother's name.

Diane closed her eyes and took a deep breath, " The world's in great danger,. Do as I've told you. And remember: your father and I love you. We love you so very much and we're proud of you", Diane cupped Zara's cheek. There were tears in her eyes. She let out one final breath and left the world.

And Zara with a mission.
