Zara had left with Amiyah leaving Chase with Amelia. Amelia had led him to the other side of the corridor with three rooms. She opened the one in the right corner; the room was large with a double bed and cream colored walls. Amelia told Chase where everything he needed was. He gave her a smile which she blushed and returned. Chase couldn't help but think how pretty she looked when she blushed.
After Amelia had left, Chase walked into the shower. He stood there for while thinking about the day's events. He was really worried for Zara. The murder of her parents was extremely strange. Though Nathaniel had told him and Zara that Diane was a Sorceress the cause of their death was still a mystery. The sword pedant in his neck was glistening due to the light coming from the small window. Chase scrubbed the blood off his hands and himself clean. When he stepped out of the shower, he found a pair of khaki pants and and a white t-shirt kept neatly on the bed. He smiled thanking Amelia in his mind and quickly dressed himself.
Chase lay on the bed with his eyes closed, trying to fall asleep but couldn't. He got up and looked out of the window beside the bed expecting to see the busy city at a distance but instead he was greeted with a wide stretch of trees.
Woods.
How could that be possible? West Cliff was a large city but it didn't have a forest patch. Chase thought maybe he was dreaming when he heard a knock on the door and it opened. A boy around 19 walked in. The boy was tall with a strong muscular build. His messy dark brown hair fell over his forehead. His skin had a light tan and his eyes were a dazzling pair blue hinted with green like Rowena's. He wore gray sweatpants and a navy blue t-shirt that accentuated his biceps. He was a good looking guy altogether.
"You look like you've seen a ghost", the boy smirked.
"How-", Chase started but his voice quivered. He cleared his throat and continued, "How come there are trees here?"
"Well I hate to break it to you but trees are everywhere", the boy mocked. "You're dumber than I'd expected".
"I meant, where did the woods suddenly come from? As far as I know there are none here."
"Hmm. They're concealed by magic. Nasty things in there"
"Oh. " Chase didn't know if the boy was being honest or just trying to scare him; either way he was doing a great job. Chase turned to look again at the trees wondering what could be in there. The blue eyed boy was now standing next to him with his arms folded and a blank expression on his face.
"I'm Ethan", the boy said finally, extending his arm for a shake. Chase took it and gave it a firm, formal shake. "What kind of magic do you do?".
"I don't do any magic. I'm normal".
"But you're wearing a Sorcerer's Crest", Ethan chided. He pointed at the silver chain with the sword pendant around Chase's neck. "You don't wear it unless you're a Sorcerer. It'll be a source of energy and magic when you're out of it."
Chase looked at the piece of jewellery around his neck. He thought it was a gift from Diane just before her death and not a magical lucky charm. The small sword shaped pendant had a carving of what looked like a mountain. He looked back at Ethan and just shrugged.
"It's a mountain, maybe".
Ethan's his ocean blue eyes lit up with mischief. "Follow me", he said and walked out of Chase's room. Chase stood rooted to the spot he was standing on, not really sure about whether to follow Ethan or not.
"C'mon", came Ethan's voice from outside the door. "I'm not going to murder you".
Chase followed Ethan out of the manor to its backside. Ethan had got two safety helmets from the small shed and handed one to Chase and wore the other himself.
