It's been three years and there hasn't been any sign of my parents. On the I-don't-want-my-parents-murdered side, it's good. But on the I-want-a-normal-life, well not so much.
As soon as we settled into Canada, Aris thought it would be good for me to be enrolled in school. I somehow became one of the most popular kids at school. Needless to say I hated it. Aria also decided to put me in gymnastics. It wasn't horrible...just bearable because it's where I met my best friend. Benjamin Linton was about my height, had the same short black hair, with the same blue eyes just like me. People always confused us with one another but we didn't mind. We were inseparable.
It was my first night at gymnastics and the coach introduced Aris and I to the guy group. I looked up and saw almost the same face starring back at me. A huge grin spread across my face and my other face did too. Names were exchanged and since the coach had some emergency, Ben took over my tour after Aris had left. The place was huge and the tour lasted half an hour. Ben looked over at me. "What school do you go to?" he asked. I told him and his face lit up. "Me too! I'll see you tomorrow! Do you want to hang out?"
I smile widely. "Sure! Oh and thanks for the tour, I'll see you tomorrow."
Months pass without incident. Gymnastics becomes entertaining once I learn backhand springs and flips. It becomes even better when I start practicing with everyone else now that I'm caught up. I put those skills to use when training with Aris after school. The routine is boring. Training, school, gymnastics, training, school, training, school, gymnastics . Repeat until you die. I train and train for my up coming meet and for trying not to be killed. Ben and I spend tons of time together. We've become inseparable. I've never had a best friend. I like it.
On the day of the meet, things go a bit complicated. It all started when I had just finished all my events and Ben and I were returning to the change room. I had just changed into my sweat pants and sweater when the P.A. system went off. "Thank you ladies and gentlemen for the wonderful day. Everyone performed beautifully. The awards ceremony will begin in ten minutes so would you please start to make your way to-". A high pitched ringing sound resonated through the system. I instantly felt pressure in my skull. I dropped to the ground cradling my head.
"Make it stop!" The pounding behind my eyes intensifying with each pulse and each breath. "Aris...I need...Aris. Ben please."
Ben finds my phone quickly and finds Aris' contact. "Aris, it's Ben. Something is wrong with Alec. We're in the change room."
The shuffle of feat is all I hear before I am carefully placed in someone's lap. It's all most impossible to open my eyes but I manage. Black hair, blue eyes. A smile forms at my lips. I look behind me and see a frantic Aris rush into the room. He quickly checks me, nods, apparently understanding what's happening and grabs my things. I look back at Ben, starring at him. A look of shock registers on his face as my body goes numb. His wide eyes show terror before I black out.

I wake a few days later to find the house peaceful. I slowly rise out my bed and throw on sweatpants and walk to the kitchen. It is eerily bright with the sun glaring through the window. A note from Aris is on the kitchen table saying he'll be back at noon. I walk over to the mirror in the hall beside the kitchen. It's a long sheet placed on the wall near the door to my bedroom. The light from the windows light up the room. Half of the mirror is in the darkness the other in light. I amuse my self my moving my head so my pupils dilate and shrink. I entertain myself for a good five minutes when something happens. My iris transform from a blue grey to dark stormy grey. The storm grey eyes of my father.
I panic instantly and surge backward. I trip and slam into the wall, my shoulder blades taking most of the impact. The house quivers under my strength. The front door bursts open to reveal Aris with a knife and gun in hand. He sees me shocked on the floor and unharmed. He slowly lowers the gun and knife as his eyes dart around the room. He walks briskly across the entry and kneels in front of me. "My...my eyes...my eyes," I couldn't stop stuttering. I take a deep breath to try to compose myself. "My eyes just changed colours."
"What do you mean changed colours?"
"They went from my blue grey to my father's stormy grey ones."
A slow smile spreads across his face. "Imagine yourself as him. Imagine changing into him," I look at him like he's crazy,"Well? Go on."
I make my way to the mirror and shut my eyes, blocking out the world. I see my father and I standing side by side. I imagine us moving together as I fade into him. All I see is him now. My eyes snap open in an instant and a startled gasp escapes my lips. I am transforming into my father. The transformation is mesmerizing. It looks like my body is made up of hundreds of tightly woven strips. But now those strips have come apart and are flipping sides. The transformation starts from the top and cascades down my body, changing as it goes. Blond hair, stormy grey eyes, a tall and muscular body that is all foreign to me. Aris and I both gasp as something snaps inside me. I have become my father and I am flying.
