Chapter Twenty Six

"Movie night tonight, boyfriends and girlfriends invited," Casey announced when she came into the shop for her shift. Jordyn is working, but I'm just there in between classes right now.

"Where?" Jordyn asked.

"At the apartment, we're keeping it simple," Casey answered as she tied her apron on. I check my phone to see it's time for me to go and I begin to head out.

"Where are you going? Brendan is gonna be here in like ten minutes," Casey questioned when she noticed me leaving.

"Class," is all I said as I made my exit.

To be honest, I don't have to leave for another twenty minutes, but I've been avoiding all things Brendan since Monday when I slipped up. It's Friday now.

I'm pathetic.

When my final class of the day ends, I head straight to the apartment to see Iris has already arrived for the movie night. Her and Jordyn are napping on the couch together so I try to be really quiet as I walk to my bedroom.

I take a quick shower and put on a pair of comfy shorts and a long sleeved shirt from my high school. Don't judge, it's super comfortable.

I also pull on a pair of ankle socks with dinosaurs printed on them. I saw them at the drugstore a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't pass them up. They're so cute.

I hear knocking at the front door and then Jordyn's voice a few moments later.

"Oh, hey, Brendan, come on in."

I freeze in my spot. Why is he here?

A light knock sounds at my door and Jordyn walks in soon after, an apologetic look on her face.

"I know what happened last week has you on the fence, and I tried to convince Casey that she shouldn't have invited him, but she did anyway. I'm sorry," she explained with a low voice so he couldn't hear.

A few minutes pass and neither of us move.

"Come on, Al. Tonight will be fun, just forget about what happened and come out there with me," she tried to urge me on, grabbing my hand and lightly pulling me towards the door. I allow her to and she lets go once we're in the line of sight of the living room.

Brendan and Iris are both sitting on the couch and on their phones. Jordyn goes straight to the kitchen and I just awkwardly stand where she left me.

I am not ready for this.

Before I can disappear back into my room, Casey enters the apartment with bags of chinese take out.

"Oh good, everyone's here!"

Her comment when she walked in caused Brendan to look around the room before his eyes finally landed on me. He gets up from the couch and walks over to me, and once he reaches me, he asks if we can go talk somewhere.

This cannot be good.
