Chapter One:
He lost track of time.
The days felt like hours, the night for others would have been his early mornings. Maybe it could have been weeks or months and still there wasn't any progress. His eyes bored towards the ever blackening space that he floated upon, far away stars adding to the background. They didn't mean the wonders they did once to him; just another probable system that the pieces could be in or another new wave of friends or foes he thought to himself.
Truth be told he was tired, it was taking a toll on him emotionally and physically. The long on-sets of time being spent on a ship were taking a toll on him, the memories of Earth and the final moments of its end repeating time after time as an instant flew by. He wanted —action, progress, results—something that would distract his mind or to fuel the determination that once ran through him. To save Earth and be a family and to just be a kid again.
A sigh crept through his tired body, "I feel you," he turned his head towards the voice. Casey lounges on the floor, his dark clothings bouncing against the pristine white, arms and legs spread apart. His eyes closed as the lights above blinded him. Raphael snickers. He looks like an idiot, well, more like a snow angel.
"You look dumb," the sight of him bringing his low energy to a mild stance.
"Well there goes my peace and quiet." He rubs his eyes as he sits up from the floor.
"What are you even doing here?" He gets up and starts walking towards Raphael. "It's basically midnight my dude," Casey's focus turns towards the view.
"Oh," he's not genuinely surprised "I didn't even know it was late." The rest of the team have at some point encountered Raphael in his all nighter, no sleep mode. By now he's use to it.
He changes the subject, "So if its midnight" his eyes now on Casey again "why are you up?"
"I couldn't sleep." He sighs.
"How come?"
"I don't know," he shrugs "maybe the last stop was a bit to much for me."
His head turns from Casey to the view again and he stares in silence, his memories recollecting themselves. It took him a while to come to the realization; the stop happened a day ago and not some weeks ago. He was bewildered.
"But hey at least we got some information about the pieces," Casey says in a joyful tone, Raphael just merely nods.
"Um" now it was Caseys turn to change the subject, "are you okay?" His voice cracked as he spoke, Raphael already knowing how uncomfortable Casey felt. It's as if the world returned to its slow pace. The stars ever moving so slowly. The lights slowly making the white floors become too bright to even look at. The size of the ship feeling a bit too small for his liking. The slow beating rate of his heart piercing in his ears. The static sound of technology buzzing everywhere else. His face turned into disgust, his thoughts hitting him. Why is he asking this? Do I look weak? What is wrong with you? What is wrong with me? Why is he asking me this? Am I okay? His thoughts stop as the ship itself slightly turns, the lights turn red, the view of empty space being replaced with a warning signal and an alarm going off.
"Casey what did you do!" Raphael started yelling, his hands turning into fits as his already angry mood turned more aggressive. Casey brought his hands up in defense, "You saw me! I did nothing!" Raphael looked at him, Casey's once lazy demeanor twisted into fear.
The doors that lead towards the other parts of the remaining ships opened, Fugitoid rushes in, he ran pass both Casey and Raphael.
"What's going on?" Raphael tried to say as the alarms were still booming.
"There's a ship," his hands were typing fiercely, "it's the one we were told about." The greys. All he can remember was when he first heard about theses so called dangerous creatures were small gray beings with oversized heads, he was laughing his head off. But at the moment he wasn't snickering or smirking, his body tense as it pondered him of why they were here at all? His eyes tried looking past the warning signals, trying to see any ships but no avail.
"It appears that they have attacked us," Fugitoid scans through the screen, a series of footage of the ship itself. Raphael can see a part of the ship was blown away, debris scarring into space. He breathed a sigh of relief knowing that his brothers and April were not there. As if on que all of them barged into the room, April coming in last stopping midway to catch her breathe.
"What do we do?" Leonardo says while looking at one panel that shows the ship itself.
"We attack!" He could feel the adrenaline start pumping through his body, he took in a deep breath of air, his chest rising up and going down in depth. The fear that hid behind the back of his head disappeared to thin air, he was getting excited.
"We have to be smart Raph," his brother Donatello spoke in protest, "I don't want to die in the hands of an advance species- especially in the hands of grey aliens."
"Why not?"
"It could be fun Donny," Michelangelo agreed with Raphael "you're being a party pooper."
"Guys focus!" April interrupts their conversation. Her face filled with annoyance. The brothers quiet down and face the rest of crew. Raphael eyes go back to the image of the ship that over-shadowed them; a circular shape ship, almost camouflaging against the cosmos but it was still noticeable, the outline of it there in plain sight.
