CHAPTER FOUR

Alyssa's point of view

I walked out the door and down the stairs where I met Perla staring at me, wide eyed.

"Where have you been?!" She asked as she grabbed my shoulders and lead me to a quieter spot in the corner of the overly large sized room. "I just danced with the Zack Valladares!" She squealed in my ear.

I may or may not have gone deaf. I flinched and slightly rubbed my ear. Even above the music she seemed to be heard louder then anyone. "That's really great, Pearl... Who's that again?"

She huffed impatiently as if she couldn't believe what I was saying. "Zack Valladares. That Latino billionaire! The one with the beautiful eyes... Perky red lips?" Her voice was laced with disbelief. When she saw my blank face she sighed again. "he was the one on the Times magazine cover last week?"

The boy upstairs, I knew I recognized him.

She must have seen my eyes brighten with knowledge because she smiled. "Yeah," she extended the word, "you got it. And I danced with him. For a full song too. Like from those old movies and stuff."

As happy as I was for her, I really couldn't care less. But being the good friend I am I smiled at her hoping she would not see the invented happiness in it.

She kept the smile on her face while she said, "you don't care do you?"

Maybe not.

"Well..." My voice became high.

She rolled her eyes but smirked. "I don't care you don't care. The dance was perfect even though he said nothing to me."

"He's just another one of those douche bags. Because I love you I'm gonna say don't get involved with those kind of guys." I stopped a beat before saying, "besides, aren't you dating that- that Lewis dude?"

She smirked her classic smirk, "yeah, but he's not worth my time."

I gave her a disappointed look but then smiled, unable to keep my straight face. "And that, Zayn, guy is?"

I heard people applaud in the background and a man speaking into a microphone but I paid no attention

"It's Zack and it's not like I'm actually gonna get with him. He's a dick and we both know it." She stated matter-of-factly

That's when I was tapped on my shoulder. I began to turn, but not before seeing the eyes of my best friend widen slightly. Oh no.

"May I have this dance?" The boy from upstairs said. A half smirk was plastered on his olive skinned face.

I scoffed and was about to refuse before Perla nudged my forward so I nearly crashed into him. "Of course she will."

I watched as Zack winked to Perla, I turned around to watch her reaction, she looked taken aback but grinned foolishly nevertheless.

His smirk grew as if to say, two more girls added to my To Do list. He then grabbed my hand with his and lead me to the very centre of the dance floor, where he abruptly grabbed my hips and pulled me forward so we were only inches apart. Our body heat radiated off each other, rapidly heating me up. Our breaths met each others half way. His cologne burned through my nose and down my throat, and as much as I hated myself for this, I actually liked smelling it. I forced my heart beat to slow down, to breathe normally.

I'm an object to him. That's all. I reminded myself over and over again. I will not get attached.

He let go of my hip with his left hand and he grabbed my hand. His other hand slid further down then necessary and landed at the end of my spine. He began to move to the violins and instantly I began to mimic his actions, following his lead. "Don't think that I'm just another girl to your list of: Who To Sleep With Then Leave." We were so close I saw the different shades of gold and brown in his iris. I watched his pupils dilate slightly when we made eye contact.
