CHAPTER NINE
Zacks point of view
My car roared on the silent street. Street lamps flickered as tress swayed beside them. On one side, a forest so dark, it whispered it's secrets into the shadows. On the other side were small, old houses. As I drove along I couldn't believe Alyssa would ever live in one of them, but after a few minutes of aimless driving, I found her house. I passed it, back and forth, not believing that she would live somewhere like that. I don't know what made me assume she was as wealthy as I, perhaps just her confidence. After coming to the realization that, that was her house, I drove into the small drive way and parked my conspicuous car.
I had no time to reach the front door before it opened and out came Alyssa Berry, all dressed up in beautiful black clothing. She slammed the door behind her and leaned her back against it, as if protecting it from me entering. She seemed puffed, but soon recovered when giving her a curious stare.
"So, are we getting this over and done with or what?" The words flowed from her mouth like a melody. I was mesmerized by the lack of sass in it. Not just by her voice, but everything about her seemed to glow. Her obsidinan-black dress was stunning to say at the least. It was as black as ebony, deeply contrasting her ashen-white skin; she almost seemed luminescent; an angel cloaked in all her majesty. I couldn't help but stare with my mouth agape. Her cleavage showed through the dress's v-neck and I couldn't help but feel abashed at having glimpsed that way. The top half of her dress was a floral material that curved at the end, sewn to the rest of the black material of her dress. The front of her chocolate hair was pinned to the back of her head, the rest of her thick locks cascaded halfway down to her waist in soft light waves.
Pushing herself from the door she began walking towards me, her black heels clicking with each step on the gravel ground. "Could you not check me out," she whispered, "my brother and dad are watching." Sure enough through the window, close to the door, stood a bearded, skinny man, her dad I assumed, and next to him was a muscular lookalike. She didn't stop when walking past me, but casually walked towards my car. Without hesitating, she opened the door to shot gun and gracefully sat herself in my car, closing the door behind her. After I realized I had been staring at her, I shook myself from the beautiful illusion and quickly turned my head to face her watching family from the window. Raising my hand, I moved it in one motion to say goodbye then walked to my car, seating myself in the drivers seat.
Alyssa had made herself comfortable. She sat, legs overlapped, staring at her painted black nails. I didn't drive for a few seconds, instead I stared at her. "You look beautiful." Alyssa looked up from her nails, making eye contact with me. Her blue eyes swirled in shades of dark and light, the black pupil looked so black under the moon light's shine, that it seemed to suck me in like a black hole. "You dressed up for me I see."
She scoffed, "for your parents. First impressions are always the most crucial."
I started the car, forcing myself to turn away from her luscious eyes. "So, you think there's going to be a second impression?" I raised my eyebrows, knowing she was staring at me. I couldn't help but wonder what she was thinking, her expression said "touch me and you die" but when you looked deeper there was something else there. Something that seemed to be eating at her.
She finally looked away, hiding a smirk down at her lap, "sure hope not." Her voice wasn't angry or defensive, in fact, for the first time since I met her, it was filled with a kind of laughter that wasn't sarcasm or mockery, but genuine laughter. I couldn't help but smile, "what are you so happy about?" Alyssa asked. I hadn't realized she was staring at me.
