A Growing Connection

Still confused at the rare response from Noctis, Prompto finally let out a word.

"Huh?" He swallowed his sushi.

Noct glowed bright red and surprised at Prompto's reaction too.

"I mean... what you did was cute. Not talk for a while and leave me hanging well all of a sudden you copied the couple over there. It was pretty sweet." Noct spoke in a broken rhythm, caught off guard and still glowing red.

"I had to do something to change the subject. I will tell you later.. I promise. Now isn't the right time." Prompto smiled.

"Whenever you're ready, but pinky promise?" Noct put his arm out.

"I feel like we're children again." Prompto laughed as he 'pinky promised' Noct.

The boys continued to eat their sushi as if nothing happened in hope that no one saw or heard their conversations. With a mouth full, Prompto spoke out after staring at Noct for a while.

"Sorry... about your lip. I really messed you up."

"I can make up a cool story on how a black hooded thug jumped me. Everyone in school will be amazed."

"I'm sure someone would've seen you tonight though so they will destroy your awesome fake story."

"I'll just say my knight in shining Armour saved me." Noct pointed at Prompto with his chopsticks.

"Now that's a twist in the story."

They giggled once more and continued to finish their remaining sushi. The waiter walked over to take their plates. He stared at Prompto for a long time before smiling and walking away with the plates.

"What was that for?" The freckled boy asked Noct.

"I'm not sure.."

The waiter peeked around the corner again with the bill in his hand. Before he handed it over he finally spoke what was on his mind.

"I knew it." His smile reached his ears.

"Knew... what?" Prompto slowly spoke.

The waiter crouched to their level and whispered, "Your relationship."

"No,no! That was nothing! We usually do that, it's a very bro-like game!" Noct tried to cover it up.

"You guys have always been best friends. I haven't seen you leave each others side." The waiter finally put down the bill onto the tabletop.

"That is true...we always be at each other's side. Even when I'm king!" Noct glanced at Prompto.

The blonde boy reached into his pocket for money to pay, but Noct grabbed his hands so prevent him.

"It's on me, remember?" Noct smiled.

"But..."

"No buts!"

The waiter laughed at their chatter and placed his hand out to take the money. Noct placed the 250 Gil into the white gloved hand.

"Thank you. Stay safe you two and I'll see you soon. It was nice seeing you two again." The waiter led them to the door.

"See you around." Noct raised his hand while walking out the door.

"Thank you!" Prompto smiled while following him.

It was now 1:16 AM but the streets were still lively and the neon lights lit it up full of energy. The night air had grown colder and Prompto was only wearing a thin coat. He grabbed himself to keep himself shielded, but he shivered. Despite him trying to hide this, Noct noticed and unzipped his coat. He pulled it off of his arms and wrapped it around Prompto.
