Chapter 1

Who am I?

That's simple.

My name is Haley Clark and I am 23 years old. I have fairly light brown hair which I normally wear down or in a high ponytail. I also have bright blue eyes and I wear contacts so that I don't have to wear my glasses. My clothing choices are fairly plain but I love it; blacks, greys and some khaki thrown in for good measure. I don't like to stand out with my clothing or makeup choices, I prefer to stand out by what's in my head. I was top of my classes for pretty much everything and I had all those nicknames - yeah, those ones.

Anyways, I was on my way to Tesco's in the freezing cold. I had been slipping on ice all the way so far. I started walking through the park, admiring the freshly set snow and little markings made by dogs, squirrels and other small animals. I was lost in the thought of winter, I didn't see him until it was too late.

A man was walking quickly, coming down the other way as me. He was listening to some music and was looking around, like me. We were only about a metre apart when I noticed him and we were about to walk right into one another. I did that backstep thing to try and not run into him but it did not work.

I tripped on a pile of snow. Great! Just before I landed face-first I felt a pair of hands grip my waist, stopping me from falling. The man walking past lifted me back up so I was stable on the floor. His grip loosened but his hands did not leave my waist. I stared into his blue eyes and he stared back at mine.

"I'm Joe." His voice was quiet yet it dominated any other sound I was hearing. His voice sent a shudder all over my body, my stomach felt as though I was free falling on a roller-coaster. A small smirk formed onto his lips a few moments after he said that.

"I'm Haley." I replied and only hoped my voice had the same affect on him as his did on me.

We blinked and it ruined the moment.

Joe probably realised that his hands were still on me waist and he removed them quickly. The warmth dissipated and I welcomed the cold back. "Thank you for catching me," I added on, "I didn't really fancy a face of snow this morning." he let out a small laugh at my statement.

"It's no hassle," He looked down to the floor and quickly brought his gaze back to my eyes, "why don't I give you my number and if you feel like your going to fall over again give me a call. Ya know, don't want you falling for anyone else."

I was a bit taken aback by his smoothness but I laughed at his attempt at a pick up line. "Sure, only for that gem of a pick up line." I handed him my phone and he quickly typed his number in.

"Why don't you call me later." Joe suggested, "I'll be free at seven."

"Okay, I'll ring you then." I smirked at him and he gave me one in return, "I gotta go nip into Tesco's now so I'll speak to you later."

"Okay, bye." Joe smiled to me.

"Bye."

A/N- Hey, I hope you enjoyed this first chapter of my new book where Haley meets Joe for the first time.
