Chapter 8.

I sat down next to Joe, opposite the ginger kid.

"Oh, that's Josh." Caspar pointed at the ginger guy.

Josh smiled and gave me a wave and I smiled back at him, he looked a bit awkward here.

"Well, this is a bit awkward." Caspar commented, "We'll leave you two alone." he got up dragged Josh away with him as I gave him a grateful smile.

"Thank god," Joe sighed, "if I had said anything to you with those two around they would've made fun of me." Joe turned to face me and smiled, obviously relieved that we were alone.

"Hey," he leaned in  a bit closer and whispered to me, "I'm finished with my drink so, if you wanted to, then maybe we could go back to my flat?" he asked me with a smirk.

"Yeah, sure." I responded while standing up.

"Great, I'll show you the way." He showed me out, trying not to make eye contact with Josh and Caspar.

We got to his house after a short Uber. I was surprised that we took an Uber for that short amount of travel when there was a tube station on the same road as the coffee shop, but oh well.

I thought that my flat was pretty big but when I walked into his flat I was shocked that it was an actual flat. There were stairs. Stairs? I'd hate to think of how much it was to rent as we were in almost the centre of London.

He obviously picked up that I was staring at his home "I know, I know it's a bit messy but don't judge me, I'm quite a busy person."

"No, it's not that." I replied hastily, "I'm just trying to comprehend how all of this is classified as a 'flat', because this is the biggest flat I've ever seen."

"I'm not really sure how to respond to that but how about we watch a movie?" Joe said while ushering me to the living room which was probably the same size as my kitchen and living room combined.

"Okay," I said as I took a seat on one of the sofas, "what do you want to watch?"

"Umm, maze runner?" he asked as he took a seat right next to me. At this point I was fangirling so hard because I was so excited for the third movie.

"Definitely, I love the maze runner. Especially Thomas Brodie-Sangster, he's my man." I just realised what I said and awkwardly turned to face Joe who was, luckily, laughing quietly. "Well let's start watching it then." I quickly turned back to face the TV and it flickered to life.

About half an hour into the move, Joe told me something that I wish I had known earlier.

"Oh, um Haley," Joe turned to me, "my friend just texted me, he needs to borrow something and he'll be here in a sec."

"Okay, what does he need to borrow." I figured that that might've been a bit nosey.

"So he's getting this weird drill thing because he's installing a new oven because he set his one on fire. What an idiot." Joe laughed but I grew stiff.

This can't be my brother, can it. I'm pretty sure more than one person has set fire to their oven. But, before I could ask Joe any questions about his friend, the doorbell rang.

He ran over to the door and greeted his friend with a simple "Hello mate, how are you?"

"Yeah, not bad mate, you?" his friend sounded a lot like Brett.

"Yeah, good good. Actually I have a kinda date in the living room right now so I'm just going to quickly nip upstairs and grab your drill and you can go say hi." Joe said before running up the stairs.

I heard the door close and footsteps coming towards me. Who was I kidding? Of course it was Brett, who else would've set fire to their oven?

"Hey," possible Brett walked into the room and I tried to hide myself underneath of the blanket, "I'm Brett and, oh my god Haley what are you doing here?"

Dam it.

"Ohhhhh Brett, hi." I said nervously.

"What are you doing here?" My brother asked patronisingly.

"Didn't Joe already tell you?" he looked at me confused, "I'm his 'kinda date in the living room'. I mean who else did you expect it to be if I was the only person in here?" I said calmly.

"Yeah I figured that but did you have to go and hook up with one of my friends?"

I looked at him astounded. "Hook up? Um no!" I tried to calm myself down a bit, "I know that you're just annoyed at me right now but why don't you leave and I'll bring the, the, whatever thing that you're borrowing back home later?"

Brett was going to say something to me but Joe did first. "Whoa, what's going on in here?" He asked with the drill in his hand.

I looked over at Brett, "Are you going to tell him or should I?"

He raised his finger a bit, "I vote for the latter."

I rolled my eyes at him, by this point Joe was getting quite confused. "He's my brother." I said, pointing at my brother.

There was an awkward silence for five seconds before Joe, thankfully, broke it. "Well this is just awkward."

"Agreed," Brett piped in.

"Well, Brett can you just take the drill and fix our oven because it's Izzy's birthday on Friday and I am responsible for baking the cake and I also want to make my pasta bake for tonight?"

"Fine, see ya at home." and with that, Brett left.

"Movie?" Joe said.

"Yeah, let's finish that."
