A/N: So, after a bit too long, I finally have the next chapter for While They Wage War  :D Great news for anyone who reads my stories, I'm on holidays as of tomorrow afternoon so I will be dedicating my time to Wattpad, Twitter, Instagram, and friends. Anyway, I'm hoping to have more chapters up soon. For now, read on.

The first place that came to mind as a good shelter was the train tracks. There was a little burrow near there that some of the children without homes used to hide in before they were moved to the country. Unfortunately for me, I was miles away from the tracks and I could hear the planes coming close. I had to get out of sight and sheltered before the bombs came or I was in serious danger. I ran down the street, looking for something that I could use as protection. There was nothing. “Run Rayleigh, run!” I heard from a few hundred metres in front of me. A young girl, not even 7, ran across the road to the front garden of a small house where a frantic woman stood. From her expression, it was clear that she was having an internal battle trying to decide whether to run out and grab the child or stay where she was. She chose the latter and I made the decision to scoop the child up myself. I rushed her over to her mother. There was relief and gratitude in the woman’s eyes. She looked me from head to toe and then glanced up at the sky. The woman looked back to me sadly and then turned to enter the burrow. My heart sank as I realised that she was not going to let me in. I turned around and as I was about to continue looking for shelter, I heard a young voice behind me. “Aren’t you coming in?” it said. The girl that I had helped was standing in the doorway of the shelter. I was surprised but then remembered that somebody so young wouldn’t understand why I wasn’t allowed with her. “I can’t, I’m afraid.” I said.  She looked very confused and tried to reason with me. “But you helped me. If you don’t come in, you could die.” I laughed. It was not a humorous laugh but a laugh of disbelief. “I suppose I could.” I said. She stared at me with her big blue eyes wide and her mouth half open. It was then that another child appeared in the doorway, her older brother. I figured he must be because they had the exact same shade of dark brown hair.  He lent down and whispered something in her ear and before I knew it, both of the children had a hold of my arms and were pulling me into the bomb shelter.
