A New Responsibility

The next day, Sofia was waiting at the entrance of the tiger park with Isabel and Elena. "Remember: the rules of the park say that any visitor under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult, so we all have to stay with King Garrick the entire time we're in there," she explained to the Avaloran princesses.

"Okay," Elena and Isabel chorused.

Suddenly, Hugo's voice rang out, "Here we are!" He, Garrick, and Axel showed up.

"Princess Elena, Princess Isabel, so good to see you," Axel smiled.

"What brings you here?" Hugo asked.

"We just came to see Sofia," Elena replied.

Suddenly, a man's vice rang out, "Hola, Majestades." Everyone turned to see who it is.

"Hola, Señor Jesus," Sofia waved.

This is Daisy's father, Jesus. "Hola, Sofia," he smiled.

"Are you here to see Daisy?" Hugo asked.

"Yes, I want to make sure she's okay," Jesus nodded.

"Is she back in workaholic mode?" Axel asked.

"No, she woke up with a sore throat this morning, and she came to work anyway," Jesus replied. "She said she's fine, but her voice suggests otherwise."

The gates to the park opened, and everyone entered.

"Wow, this place is amazing," Elena gazed.

"Very," Isabel agreed.

Suddenly, the group heard someone sneezing.

"That must be Daisy," Jesus surmised. "She'd been sneezing a little this morning."

Everyone went to the rescue squad headquarters, where they saw Daisy, Sara, and Captain Stern with a pink tiger that had wings just like the jaquins. Daisy was wearing a mask over her nose and mouth.

"Hi, there," Garrick waved.

Sara and Daisy were happy to see their favorite visitors.

"Hello, Your Majesty," Sara waved. "Hi, Elena, Isa."

"Hola, Papá," Daisy waved.

"What are you doing, mi nena?" Jesus asked.

"We're helping Garnet here," Daisy replied, her voice sounding raspy.

"Wow, she has parrot wings, just like the jaquins," Sofia noted.

"Yes, Garnet is a Tigarrot," Sara revealed. "She's part tiger and part parrot."

"Yes, I am," Garnet agreed.

Everyone, except Sara, Daisy, Captain Stern, and Jesus gasped.

"She can talk?" Axel asked.

"Yes, all Tigarrots talk like humans," Daisy said. "The Tigarrot is my favorite tiger in the park because it reminds me of the jaquins back in..." Then she let out a sneeze. "...Avalor."

"Bless you," everyone said.

"Tontiachis, it's good that you're a strong woman and that you're laying off the workaholic mode," Jesus said. "But I can't let you work in this condition."

"Your father is right, dear," Captain Stern agreed. "I'm going to let you go home and get some rest. Take as long as you need to."

"Okay," Daisy nodded. She got on her horse and left the park with her father.

Suddenly, Garnet started to feel pain in her stomach. "Sara, it's happening sooner than I expected," she groaned.

"What is?" Elena asked.

"It looks like Garnet is having contractions," Isabel surmised.

Sara, Captain Stern, Elena, Isabel, Sofia, Axel, Hugo, and Garrick took Garnet inside—and she laid three eggs.

"I suppose that because Tigarrots are half bird, they lay eggs?" Sofia surmised.

"That's right," Sara nodded. "Captain, maybe we should take Garnet to find some food for her babies for when they hatch."

"That's a good idea, Sara, but now we don't have anyone to look after the eggs," Captain Stern frowned.

"What about some other members of your rescue squad?" Axel suggested.

"Daisy is the expert at taking care of eggs and baby tigers, and she went home sick," Sara said. "We can't leave the eggs unattended."

Hugo thought this was a good way to show that he wasn't just a fairytale prince. "Sara, Captain Stern, I myself had some experience with animals," he said. "What if I looked after the eggs?"

"Are you sure you want to do this, boy?" Captain Stern asked.

"Hugo, it's really sweet that you want to help, but visitors under 18 aren't even allowed in the park unsupervised," Garrick said.

"How much trouble can three eggs be?" Hugo shrugged.

"Well, he has a point," Sara nodded.

"Okay, Prince Hugo, you can look after the eggs," Captain Stern smiled. "Just let us know if anything comes up."

"Will do," Hugo smiled.

"Good luck, champ," Garrick smiled.

Once the others left, Hugo smiled—he thought this would be a good way to show Claudette, Richard, and Tim that he's not a fairytale prince and that it was wrong of them to judge him.
