Chapter 27
Angel stirred as the morning light woke her. She lifted her head lazily and looked down at the three little bundles of fur lying next to her. She yawned stretching her jaw. She stood and nudged the kits awake, then padded off to get something to eat.
She grabbed a plump rabbit that smelt of the forest and sat down and nibble on it. She watched as the three kits padded out and looked around, then padded toward her when they found her. Her ears perked when she heard the other cats meowing quietly to each other.
“Look it’s those kits Angel found.”
“Why’d she bring them? Now we have even more mouths to feed!”
“Yeah, why should we share our food with them? They can’t even fight!”
“They’re completely useless!”
“We should get rid of them.”
She watch as the kit’s ears folded back as they came closer to her. She folded her ears back as well and when they finally reached her she quickly wrapped them in her tail and held them close, glaring at all the cats with her icy blue eyes narrowed in anger. The cats all flinch at her glare, realizing they’ve been caught and quickly began to go do things.
She looked down at the kits as they watched in shock as the cats all scamper away. She nudged them to the rabbit and purred sweetly. “Eat. You’ll need food to stay healthy to become strong.”
They nodded and began to munch down on the rabbit. She sat and they eat and for the first time she thought about having her own kits. What would it be like? Having a bunch of little cats snuggled up to my stomach, their pelts all fluffy. Watching as they grew into young fighters. Fighting beside them, watching as they had kits of their own. She blinked and stared warmly at them. Yeah, one day.
“Angel!”
She turned as she heard her name. She saw Taco padding up along with Rip, Ice, and Snake. They bowed, showing respect to their leader’s daughter.
“Yes?”
“We were gonna go on patrol and thought you’d like to join.”
She nodded then turned to the three kits who were watching with wide eyes. She tilted her eyes and estimated that they were probably around five to six moons old. She meowed gently to them. “How old are you three?”
“Almost six moons.” Crow meowed, stepping forward and puffing out his chest. “We’ll be six moons in eight sunrises.”
She nodded then turned to the four cats waiting for her. “We’ll be taking them along with us, to see if they’ll make good warriors.” Though that wasn’t entirely true, she just didn’t want them out of her sight knowing the clan didn’t want them.
The cats all nodded and she let Taco lead the way. It was quiet most of the patrol, they had the kits sniff things out like cats that have passed through and if they are still near or long gone. If they’re apart of BloodClan or not, though they had to explain about BloodClan a little and had them catch some prey. They did pretty good, Crow caught two rats and Jay and Robin caught a bird together.
The other cats on the patrol were shock, not expecting them to of been able to catch anything and were shock that they did it all on their first try.
They padded into camp, the kits holding their heads high as the older cats carried their prey to the freshkill-pile. Grape a light brown tom padded up and sniffed at one of the rats and looked at the cats. “Good catches.”
Taco shook his head and pointed to the kits. “They caught it, not us.”
He stared at the kits in shock and stuttered. “Those-those ki-kits cau-ght the-them!?”
Angel padded up and nodded. “Yes and they did it all for the first time!” She felt proud, like they were her own kits. She turned to the kits and purred. “You all did well today; you’d make get great warriors, if you’d wanted to join.”
The three kits puffed out their chest and scampered over to her, rubbing against her, purring. She let out a loud purr and lowered her head, nuzzling them.
Crow looked at her nervously and asked. “Um, me and my littermates wanted to ask if-if…” He looked down, fear in his green eyes. She lifted his chin with her tail and looked at him curiously.
“If what Crow?”
“If you’d be our…mommy…”
She blinked at him in shock, then looked at the other two as they nodded nervously. She smiled at them gently and purred. “I’d be happy to be your mommy.”
Their heads snapped up and they squeaked in excitement. They ran around her happily. Jay hoped on her back and purred. “Does that mean we get to call you Mommy?” She nodded and he bounced around on her back, then accidently slipped off but she caught him with her tail and gently lowered him down.
He hopped off and bounced back to his siblings. They turned to her with joy filled eyes, her eyes held happiness too as she looked back at him.
Then the fur on her back bristled and her head snapped towards the entrance, her eyes narrowed in hatred. The kits looked at her shock them turned to see what their new mommy was lokking at with such hatred. Standing at the entrance of the Twoleg nest was a brown she-cat with a black paw and green eyes and next to her were three cats by her. A black tom with amber eyes, a large tan tom with dark stormy grey eyes and a small tan she-cat with light grey eyes.
Angel lowered herself to the ground, her ears folded back and a growl ripped from her throat.
“Death, what are you doing here?”
