RECAP:  Chapter 5: Late Night

OH MY GOD!" I cried. That only meant one thing. A single explanation.

Call it what you want: the rubber ducky was in the bathtub. The hen was in the nest. The mouse was in the hole.

But we all knew what it actually meant.

The killer was in the building.

Chapter 6: Boom

Gwen fainted. She was out cold. Dead cold. Bad pun, I know, since Reese told me that I had been dead cold...when I was actually dead. But, don't worry, Gwen wasn't dead. I don't think....

I hope she wasn't. Because, really, it's hard to tell these days. I was "dead". And then I wasn't. Confusing, I tell you.

Anyhow, there was a murderer in our school building. Well, words are hard to find. But, I think 'chaos' will sum it up. It was crazy. And scary. Everyone got so freaked and confused. I was slightly freaked and confused. My roommates were completely freaked and confused. The teachers were ridiculously freaked and confused.

Like I said before, it was chaos.

Ms. Pennington, Mr. Ray, and Mrs. Locke had come to ask me specifically what the guy had looked like. I told them what I could, right then and there, because they said it wasn't safe for us to march to the Headmistress's office on the other side of the school. I could tell that Reese, Nikki, and Gwen were surprised and angry when they realized I was the first one to see the killer. Well, Reese and Nikki were, because Gwen had passed out. But, you know, it still wasn't fun when my friends suddenly found out that I had lied to them. Technically, I had simply avoided the matter of my involvement, but you know what they say about that; avoiding the fact is still lying. I still don't think I was lying. I'm such an angel. How could they doubt me?

The teachers had distributed guns amongst themselves. And no, we didn't get to grab any, if you're wondering. I had the pocket knife Ms. Pennington had given me in the back pocket of my jeans. I stuffed a couple of safety pins in there, too. Just in case if I have to poke someone's eyes out, a voice in my head chimed. Meanwhile, Reese and Nikki were grabbing their bags and stuffing them with their belongings, just like I had done. We had to pack up fast and get out of the school, according to Mr. Ray. Nobody wanted to be in here with a serial killer. Well, technically, we had no proof that he WAS a killer, but everyone was just running on gut feeling at the moment. And right now, my gut told me that the guy wasn't someone to have a picnic with. Got that right, Gut.

I zipped up my book bag and swung it over my shoulder. That wasn't all I had brought to school at the beginning of the year, but it was all I could take now. They told us to just pack a few changes of clothes, along with basic necessities. Just in case if we have to camp somewhere else. It made sense for us to bring such little baggage; we needed that advantage on our side. I sat on my bed, waiting for my roommates to finish packing.

"Reese!! Toss me my shoes, will ya?"

"Ugh. Nikki, here."

"Thanks. Oh and here's your hairbrush. It was under my bed."

"OHH, that's where it went!" Then, "OW! WHAT THE HECK, NIK?!! You threw it at my HEAD!"

"Whoopsie. Sorry, Ree. My bad."

I heard Reese go hmph and smirked, "You guys quit fighting and hurry up. We gotta get outta here."

Suddenly remembering, I hopped up from my seat and hurried over to Gwen's bed. She was still out of it, and the teachers didn't know where to put her, so they had just left her with us. We had left her alone, since we were too busy packing our own stuff. After poking her a few times, I went to bathroom and came back with a cup of icy water. Hehehe. I always wanted to do this.
