Chapter Nine

"So after that, I hiked up to the North Mountain, and in the morning Gus caught up with me... and I built this," Idina finished, gesturing to the space around her.
She then grinned cheekily at her father. "And yes, I sang like Momma did." Jack laughed and Elsa smiled.
The Queen noticed Augustus looking quite nervous, as his face was pale and he was twiddling his thumbs.
"I'm sorry!" he burst out, looking at the royal pair with wide eyes. "I-I had to become friends with Idie... or-or else Father..." he looked down, avoiding their gazes.
Elsa scooted over to the prince and hugged him, soothingly rubbing his back. "Sweetheart, we know. It's alright." Augustus looked up at her. "I didn't know he did all those things to you, I swear! I didn't even know what he was planning to do. I'm sorry," he cried.
Elsa held the boy and rocked him back and forth. "Do you want to go back to Malvahan to your mother?" she asked.
Augustus sniffed and shook his head. "My mother died two years ago. I barely remember her."
Elsa looked at Jack. "But Hans said..."
Augustus interrupted. "I think he killed her. H-He's.. messed up in the head."
Elsa nodded. "Okay Augustus, is there any other family you have that you might know about? We are not letting you go back with your father."
Augustus shook his head. "I don't think I have any family."
Elsa frowned and looked at Jack. He held up a finger and thought for a moment. Then, a smile formed on his face. "The Kingdom of Corona," he said to Elsa.
Idina wiggled in her father's lap excitedly. "Where Aunt Rapunzel and Uncle Eugene live?!" she screeched. "That's perfect! They will love Gus! I remember them visiting and telling you that they couldn't have kids and-" Idina stopped once she noticed her mother's glare. "You were eavesdropping, Idina Anne?!"
Idina looked down, embarrassed that her mother was scolding her in front of Gus. "Maybe..."
Elsa sighed. "Anyway, Jack, that is a wonderful idea. We will send for them to come here and we'll figure this all out." She looked down at Augustus and smiled. "Rapunzel and Eugene aren't Idina's real aunt and uncle, they are just very good friends of ours. You will love them. They are very nice and kind-hearted people."
Augustus nodded, giving her a huge smile. "Thank you, thank you!" He couldn't believe that he might actually have a real family. "But what about my Father? And the Kingdom?" he asked.
"I'm sure your Kingdom will elect a new King or Queen. Maybe they already have by now, since there is no one left in charge there. We will let them know what happened, I promise," Elsa told him. "And as for your father... he will stay in Arendelle prison surrounded by guards. He won't get to hurt you ever again."
Augustus nodded. "Okay. Thank you so much. I present my upmost gratitude to the Queen, King, and Princess of Arendelle," he said, smiling at the people around him.
"You're welcome," Jack replied, ruffling the boy's hair. "As for now, until Rapunzel and Eugene get here, you will be staying with us at the castle. Which we should be heading back to, as it is getting dark."
Everyone stood up. Elsa thought for a moment. "Idina," she addressed her daughter, grabbing her hand as they walked. "Augustus said that Hans got burned by the fire, but none of us did. Why is that?"
Idina smiled up at her mother. "I was wondering that too up until a while ago. I figured it out though. When I was happy, my ice powers came out. But when I was sad or angry, my fire powers came out." The princess squeezed her mother's hand. "I guess that, way back in my mind, I didn't want to hurt you all, so the fire was harmless. But I didn't really know Hans, or trust him... I mean, I believed what he said but... I just had this feeling, you know? So I guess my fire burned him." She laughed. "I didn't even realize that happened until Augustus told his part. But Hans deserved it."
Elsa grinned, and Jack wrapped his arm around Idina, the other around Augustus. "That's my girl!" he laughed. Elsa opened the castle door, and Holly immediately greeted them with a happy moo from the bottom of the staircase. They all walked down, and Jack gave the affectionate white reindeer a hug, laughing as she licked his face.
But the snow was still falling, a blizzard over Arendelle. "Don't worry," Idina said, noticing the worried glances her parents gave each other. "I think I can control it now. But.. I might need your help," she raised her eyebrows up to Elsa and Jack. "You too Gus, pretend. It will be fun," she said, grabbing his hand.
Together, the powerful family and the loving little boy raised their joined hands, and Arendelle was no longer frozen again.
