Chapter Three

As the two men and their reindeers trudged up the mountain in silence, a faint grumble could be heard in the distance. Jack Frost stopped walking, and held out his hand as a signal for the others to stop too. He looked behind him and stared at the snow falling down in swirls.

The grumbling soon turned louder, and Jack recognized the distinct sound of footsteps. "I'll go check it out," he told his companions.

Jack gripped his staff and let the wind carry him into the air. He glided smoothly despite the ferocity of the blizzard. He was too intent on peering down below that he flew straight into something hard and tall. The thing growled in annoyance as Jack started falling, winded, and the huge snowman opened his hand and caught the Guardian.

Jack sat up and shook his head. "Marshmallow? What are you doing here?" Marshmallow let out a low sigh and Elsa appeared from the snowman's shoulder. "Hi Jack."

"Elsa? What are you doing here? I thought you were with Anna."

Elsa sighed. "I came to get Kristoff. She has been pleading for him. Plus, did you really think I would let you go find our daughter without me?"

Jack stood up and flew to Elsa, wrapping his arms around her. "I know it was hard choosing between comforting your sister and finding your daughter. But Anna will be OK. She has Olaf with her. And soon, Kristoff will be by her side as well. She will be fine without you."

Elsa nodded, her eyes clouding over with worry. "She wasn't supposed to be due for another four weeks. She was so scared, Jack..."

Jack hugged his wife tighter. "We will find our daughter, then we will go straight back to Anna and meet our new niece or nephew. I promise. Everything will be OK."

Elsa sniffed and buried her face into his chest. He smelled like winter, pine trees and snow. "Let's go find our baby."

After the pair informed Kristoff of what was happening back at the castle, he and Sven were placed on Marshmallow's shoulders and the snowman started running back to Arendelle. Jack and Elsa quickly made their way up the mountain, taking the lessening blizzard to their advantage by using their powers to make icy stairs and clear pathways for Holly.

Soon they approached the top of the mountain, and what they saw made the powerful couple's blue eyes widen and jaws drop. They turned their heads to the other in disbelief and back to the amazing sight.

Elsa reached out and grabbed Jack's hand, and Jack squeezed it reassuringly. "Let's go."

As the pair approached the castle, their heads and eyes turned in all directions, absorbing every detail. The Snow Queen and Spirit of Winter's daughter had made a mansion of ice...

and fire.

The castle's structure was that of one that would appear in a litle girl's fairy tale. Icy hearts, flowers, and ponies circled the castle, and a blue and orange rainbow shone over the flags that were made of a mix of frost and flame.

The ponies whinnied as the couple and Holly approached them, their orange manes blowing in the wind. Elsa stared at the various structures, objects and creatures her daughter made of fire. She always thought that fire was a horrible and unnatural element, but as she stared at her daughter's palace, it became more beautiful by the second.

Jack Frost was in complete and utter disbelief. How is the ice not melting? He thought as he patted a pony's head. He didn't even feel the burn of the flame that would normally occur. Idina inherited our winter powers... But fire? Jack ran his thumb along Elsa's hand soothingly as they both tried to make sense of everything. Two people that had ice powers made a daughter with ice and fire powers...

"Our powers together produced a reaction that created the opposite of ice... which is fire," Elsa concluded, looking at Jack with wide eyes. Jack thought about it, and agreed, nodding his head. "We have to help her and get her back home."

"She won't be easily persuaded," Elsa said, remembering her own personal and chaotic experience similar to Idina's.

"I know. Anna's told me how stubborn you were."

Elsa scoffed, folding her arms. Jack laughed, putting his arm around her shoulder. "And that still hasn't changed," he teased, kissing her cheek in an attempt to lighten the mood. Elsa gave Jack a small smile and leaned on him.

As they walked up the long steps, Elsa's mind started wandering back to that morning.
