Sadness. An emotion that tore through the mind and body of people of all ages. Sadness had always been apart of Naruto Uzumaki. Though not visible to the naked eye you'd find it fascinating to know that everyone feels it from time to time, some longer than others however, and some stronger than others. It just so happened that Uzumaki Naruto was good at placing his sadness into the back of his mind. However, its safe to say it did not stay there at all times. It's two am, the village is asleep with the silence of the night surrounding Konoha and there in the midst of it all was Naruto. He lie on his bed, tears glossing over his eyes as he desperately tried to blink them away. It was that type of "late night sadness" the type that no one spoke of and the type that was sprung in the moments when you least wanted it to.
A hiccup in the night interrupts the silence that had fallen on the village. It always started like this for him. The blurring numbers of the clock would be seen between the tears that spring like the waves of an ocean and suddenly he wouldn't be able to stop. 'It's stupid,' he'd think. 'There is nothing to cry about.' But he was wrong. There was everything to cry about. Life was always putting him down and yet he kept it to himself so when it came down to tears he sometimes supposed he deserved to cry once and a while, but then once and a while turned into every couple of days, and a couple of days into a dozen of days on end. Tears don't accomplish anything and yet here he is drowning in a pool of them.
'Pathetic.' Naruto thought to himself lifting his arms to stretch the sleeve of his pale blue pajama to wipe the water from his face. It's now three in the morning, and he can't sleep so what other to do than to train. So that's what Naruto does. Slipping on his jump suit and blue sandals he heads towards the park where team seven was scheduled to meet in several hours. Naruto trains. Push ups, laps, jumping jacks, weights, chakra warm ups, but his heart is not in it. What is he supposed to do? How will he ever become a ninja with no motivation? There's no answers to these questions he's simply stuck in this rut.
Its hours later. Naruto had ended up asleep leaning on a near by tree stump while waiting for his team. Sasuke was the first to arrive. Sasuke was never one to give a shit about anything but getting strong enough to kill itachi however it was so odd that the blonde boy not be awake and energetic so early in the morning. Seeing him asleep was brow quirking, and he couldn't seem to get past this. Another thing that bothered him is that he was usually the first one here to the training grounds, second being Naruto and then Sakura.
"Oi Dobe," He said tapping the boys shoulder.
Nothing.
"Dobe," he tries a little louder.
Still Naruto doesn't even flinch.
Concerned Sasuke crouches down and grabs both of the blonde boys shoulders shaking him awake.
"Hey, Naruto, wake up," Blue eyes flutter open.
"Mm? Sasuke-teme?" Naruto mumbles standing up and rubbing his eyes in Circle motions.
"What were you doing here so early, and why were you asleep?" Naruto blinked. "Um, I got here early and fell asleep after training a bit." He answers honestly. Sasuke surveys him for a bit, his black eyes searching for traces of a lie in blue ones, however there isn't any. "Hn, what time did you get here?" Sheepishly rubbing his neck Naruto holds up three chubby fingers. "What the hell were you doing up at three in the morning?" He asked incredulously. "Gee teme what is this twenty questions?, I just couldn't sleep alright, sheesh."
"Hn." Is the only reply Naruto gets, but he's fine with that in all honesty. He's glad he doesn't push over the boundaries. Moments later Sakura shows up walking towards the two boys with a small box. "Ohayo Sasuke-kun," she looks over towards Naruto, "Naruto-Baka."
"Hn."
"Good morning Sakura-Chan!"
It's quiet for a bit none of them say anything but it's not uncomfortable. It's just odd since usually Naruto would be bouncing around and shouting yet he seemed a little off today. Both teammates glance at one another noting the boys strange behavior and signaling to keep watch. He was too quiet, to still, and to small in personality today. It's about 45 minutes later when Kakashi is seen walking towards them.
"Yo, I'm sorry I was late the road of life was blocked today by a red rabbit and I couldn't get through." He says rubbing his neck.
"Liar!" Sakura shouts.
Naruto just blinks at him and Sasuke doesn't say anything either.
Kakashi looks towards Naruto and raises a brow, where is his usual burst of energy today?
"Well team seven, we have a mission from the hokage today," Kakashi beams. "Meet me at the hokages office in 20 minutes and pack for a week trip." Within a flash Kakashi is gone and team seven separately heads to pack.
Sasuke brings the necessary things, clothes, food, weapons, a sleeping bag, and bottles of water. Sakura brings her feminine touch along but doesn't loose sight of what she needs to bring, girl pleasantries, food, water, clothes, hair ties, etc. Lastly Naruto brought a can of water, some 50cent ramen packs, kunais, and a blanket lets not forget Gamma-Chan. The three were packed and ready to go, so they all met in the hokages office. "What type of mission do you have for us baa-chan?? A 'B' rank? A 'S' rank?" Tsunade sighs exasperated by Narutos sudden behavior. "Naruto! Please be quiet, I have a major headache and your annoying remarks are simply not helping right now!" Tsunade snaps rubbing her temples. Naruto suddenly felt a pang of guilt spread throughout him. It was his fault granny-Tsunade was like this, everything was always his fault. Quieting down and taking a few steps away from her desk Naruto stood closer to the door. The rest of team seven only sent worries glances his way, they'd never known Naruto to be this quiet, his behavior today had been kinda odd. Though they worried they all seemed to shrug it off, maybe Naruto was just having an off day.
"Team Seven, I'm assigning you to a C-rank mission. You will be delivering some classified scrolls to the Kazekage, normally this would be a B rank however due to the trip aspect of it I highly doubt you guys will be in any danger or run into any problems." Kakashi nodded, "Sounds good team, how about you make some final adjustments to your bags and while I pick up the scrolls you guys can go and gather anything else you think you might need or you could wait for me at the gate." The three shinobi merely nodded. With those words they left all three heading towards the gate. Naruto was excited, he hadn't seen Gaara in forever! Well that's not entirely true, but it's been to long. A smile made its way to Naruto's lips, he was excited to be able to talk with Gaara again, maybe they could even play some cards or something? Naruto's smile then faltered. What if the Kazekage didn't miss Naruto at all? That wouldn't be a surprise considering Naruto was a nuisance, he was a bother, and he was annoying to everyone around him. Nobody would miss him after all, he could die and nobody would care... These thoughts continued to plague Naruto's mind throughout the time they waited.Nobody would miss the nine-tailed Monster after all....
