Once again, school was nerve wracking. I entered the drama studio for the last lesson of the day. My heart was beating exceptionally quick; this was the lesson where there was no way of getting out of talking to Gerard and Frank.
I reunited with the other members of our group. Tyson had that terribly annoyed look on his face, the smaller boy, Joe, had a silly glare upon his pinched face, the girl who thought she was the greatest, Isabel, sighed heavily and sarcastically, and the girl with brown hair, Laura, looked bored stiff.
Frank entered the room after me. He saw me watching him and the looked to the floor.
"Frank-" I began.
"No, Jessica." He interrupted me. "It's obvious you never wanted to be with me in this group anyway, so don't try pretending."
"Well I'm really going to dislike being in this group now Gerard hates me." I replied, easily disobeying my mothers rule and speaking to him.
"Oh stop complaining." Frank snapped. "It's your fault if he hates you anyway."
"You don't have to be so stern with me!"
"And you didn't have to be so ignorant to me!"
"He dedicated 'Honey This Mirror Isn't Big Enough For The Two Of Us' to me!"
"Wow." Frank gasped a little. "That's big." A short look of sympathy covered him. I felt as though maybe he felt sorry for me.
After a pause, he whispered, "look, Jessica, act normally, and just, don't say anything mean to him, okay? Sometimes he can be a little... unsure."
I myself was unsure by what Frank meant. But I didn't have much time to justify it as Gerard walked into the studio, slow and lazily. He stood behind Frank and avoided eye contact with me.
The lesson ended, and once more, we hadn't done a vast amount of work at all. Being one who did care about educational purposes, I felt a little worried in case the teacher would tell us off. I started to leave the class, but Frank ran up to me.
"Quick, get out before Gerard follows, I need to speak to you, if you actually want to speak, that is." Obeying, I scuffled out the studio and ducked behind it.
"I was at Gerard's last night." Frank whispered, making sure there was no one else around. "He was drinking more than I have ever seen him. He was taking god knows what pills. He just, he thinks it's funny. He is always laughing uncontrollably. I am so worried for him, and, you know, I think he has been worse in this past week."
"Are you saying this is my fault?" I replied, a sense of worry in my voice. What if it was? Had I caused way many more problems that I had ever expected?
"Well, sort of." He sighed. "But don't worry, honestly. I can tell you are sorry for acting strange, I won't be too hard on you."
I smiled uncontrollably. Finally! One less person mad at me, and I was happy for Frank to be on my side now.
"Gerard is not going to be happy when he finds out I have been talking to you." Frank said. "I can't go back to him this lunch, as harsh as it seems. I am sure he will find his brother or something."
I stared weirdly at Frank.
"Yes, I know it doesn't seem friendly." He sighed.
Frank and I began walking, walking pleasantly along the top road of the school, passing empty classrooms and meeting no faces. It was a reasonably mild day, only a slight autumnal breeze flowing through the whispy air. Silently we shuffled, just at the beginning of the drama lesson, Frank had been snappy with me, and now he was forgiving me. Calmly, we continued stepping along the pathways. A few people sniggered and laughed as we passed, but I really didn't see what was so funny.
