Into the Fire

Part 1 Chapter 1

-Gabby's POV-

I have been a PIC on the same ambulance for two years when headquarters transferred me to Fire House 51. Before I came to 51 I was at firehouse 16 the worst two years ever I was treated like a slave their because I was on ambo and because I was a girl. I was walking up the driveway ready to start my first shift here at 51 and my first shift on 61. All of a sudden when I walk in the bay doors all the guys who are standing out on the floor by the rigs are staring at me then I say "Hi I'm Gabby Dawson I am the new PIC on Ambo 61". They are all still staring when one of them who is standing by Truck 81 says "I'm Matthew Casey I am the lieutenant on truck 81 this is Mouch, Herman, Otis, and Cruz". They are still staring so I politely  nod and walk in the house and knock on chief Boden's office. He waves me in as I close the door behind me I shake his hand and he says "Gabby Dawson I have heard some good things about you glad to have you here" "thank you Chief' I respond " I hope the guys have been respectful to you they have never had a female coworker" he says "they are alright I think a little surprised, but alright" I say. "That's good now I said I heard good things about you, I've also heard your a spitfire what I mean by that is you say what you are thinking, your honest, and you let people know when they are getting on your nerves. I also have heard you put people in their place when they need it is that true" he asks "Yes sir" I say he smiles and says "that's good feel free to be yourself and put the guys in their places they could use a little back talk. That's why I picked you to join my house I have a good feeling this is the right placement for you" he says "thank you sir I won't let you down" I say and with that he calls in the paramedic I will be working with. "Connors this is your new PIC show her around and give her a bunk understood" chief says "Understood chief" Connors replies and we walk out. 

"I'm Mike Connors nice to meet you" he says about to show me where the bunks are. He says "this one is yours on your right is the truck lieutenants  office and to your left is Herman" "Thanks" I say and he nods and walks off. I head to the locker room and choose my locker, and change. As soon as I lock my locker the bells go off. AMBO 61 MAN DOWN FIRE HOUSE 32 with that I rush out and get in the drivers seat. Then Connors gets in and we pull out lights flashing sirens blaring my hand on the horn. "Wow Dawson you really know how to get other drivers to actually pull over and let us pass" Connors says with a smile. "Well if you don't bug them they don't move" I say laughing well pulling up to Firehouse 32. I see someone lying on the ground and I get out and shout to Connors "Get a back board and a C-collar" "what happened here" I ask "he was on the roof and go light headed and he fell and blacked out" one of them said. "Alright Connors grab the rolls and tap we need to secure his head" I shout Connors comes back with the supplies we tape his head on the rolls and I say "can one of you help us get him on the back board" I say. Someone helps us get him on the back board and the same person helps us load him in the ambo I treat the man while Connors drives. 

We come back and get out of the ambo laughing cause the doctors at med said the guy would be as good as new in a week or two. The truck crew stared at us when we walked by Connors said "Dawson is awesome I mean she got people to move out of our way while driving without hitting anyone" "I told you honking the horn like crazy makes them move" I say and he walks away laughing. I look back and they are giving me a hateful glare so I walk back to the ambo to clean everything off before another call. Someone walks over and watches me I turn around and see it is the truck lieutenant I met earlier. He was standing their arms crossed looking at me "can I help you something" I asked "Dinner is usually at six your cooking" he said and walks away it was four so I had time to clean he ambo then cook. 

-TWO HOURS LATER-

"Chows up" I say as my brother walks in and says "Oh no she made stew who made Gabby angry" he said I pointed to were we keep the rigs and I go out and talk to him while everyone stares at me well everyone besides Connors. "Antonio what are you doing here" I asked giving him a hug "I came to see how your first shift is going" he said "well my partner is nice and is basically the only other nice person here expect for the chief" I say he walks back in and I am scared he announces to everyone "Listen up my name is Antonio Dawson Gabby over there is my little sister, and when someone or people treat her as if she is nothing I get angry, and no one wants to anger the person who works for Hank Voight. So I am warning you all except Connors over there she will only put up with you for maybe another 10 minutes before she rips you a new one. I don't want to have to embarrass her, but as a brother it is my job to make sure no one here acts like she is nothing or less then them, because she will rip you a new one" he says that and walks out to his car and drives off. They all look like they are about to pee themselves. I walk past and head to the locker room when I open my locker to look at a picture someone taps my shoulder I turn around ready to swing when I see it is the same truck lieutenant again, he looks at me wide eyed and says "so your brother, he seems a little over protective" he says and angrily I reply "He's my big brother yeah he is a little over protective, but at least he cares enough to defend me" I close my locker and lock it ready to walk away when he says "Your an adult and can defend yourself, so it doesn't make since that he's over protective" I say with anger in my voice "My parents split when I was 12 they left me and him he was already 18 so he became my parent/best friend/brother" and with that I walk away and head back to the ambo when the bells go off. AMBULANCE 61, TRUCK 81, SQUAD 3 BUILDING COLLAPSE 1582 LARABE DRIVE 

When we get on scene the building is in tact we radio over saying "Cancel all truck companies and squad companies no collapse we are going in to see if anyone needs help" "copy that 61" I hear we go in and a man is lying on the ground looks like he passed out so I say "Connors grab the jump bag from the ambo" he goes I turn around to see if anyone saw what happened then I hear two bangs from a gun I fall to the ground and that's the last thing I remember.
