Into the Fire

Chapter 3

-GABBY DAWSON'S POV-

I can't believe I am now friends with three people in this house, which makes me working here a little better. I stand up from the shower where I have been hiding and go to my locker I unlock it and open it when someone taps me on the shoulder. I turn around and see Otis he says "Casey is looking for you" "Okay" I say going back to what I was doing which was packing my work bag. "Like now" he says, and he better be happy that I didn't rip him a new one "Okay" I say as I grab my bag it is 9 o'clock so shift is over which means I don't have to talk to Casey I can just go home. I walk out to the commons and no one is there "See you next shift Dawson" Boden says "See you then Chief" I say and I walk out. I get to my car when someone shouts my name "Dawson" and I turn to see Casey running up behind me I put my bag in the passenger seat and close the door when he reaches me. "I've been locking all over for you Otis said he told you that I was looking for you" he says "Yeah Otis told me" I say "Then why didn't you find me" he says fire in his eyes. "Because I have to get home" I say "Oh yeah and talking to me will take all day" he says angry. "I have somewhere to be I have to go see you next shift" I say walking over to the other side of the car. "Dawson" he says sadness in his eyes my phone rings and it's Voight. I answer and right off the bat he says "Gabby its Antonio he got shot we are taking him to med" he hangs up I drop my phone my mouth open, I felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest. "Dawson" Casey say's looking worried. "I have to go sorry maybe we can talk some other time" I say and get in and start my car and drive off leaving him standing their looking worried.

-AT CHICAGO MED-

"Voight how's my brother" I say running in "he's okay and is asking for you" he says and I run to Antonio's room. When I get there he says "I am fine Gabby a little beat up and I know you no putting your life on hold because of me" he says "You got shot of course I am putting my life on hold, because of you" I say "don't" he says. I stay and talk to him for three hours then went to Molly's for my shift.

-AT MOLLY'S BAR-

I walk in and Herman smiles and says "Welcome to the Molly's family" I smile and say in reply "I am happy to be a part of it". I go and get behind the counter and Herman shows me around we pull the stools down and open ten minutes later people start coming in mainly Connors and Mouch.

-FIVE HOURS LATER-

Casey walks into the bar and sits down when he sees me his eyes light up. I got him the beer he asked for and was about to walk away when he said "what happened today at the house by your car, you know when you dropped your phone and took off looking like someone just kicked a puppy right in front of you. What happened?" he asks "it was Voight he called to tell me my brother got shot today" I say holding back the tears. Casey's face grows soft with concern "Are you okay?" he asks and I can hear the concern in his voice. "Once the guy that shot him goes to jail I will be" I say. He nods and lets me get back to work.

-10 O'CLOCK PM-

Herman comes over as I get the counter where someone has been sitting wiped down. "Why don't you go home Dawson and I will see on shift" he says "Okay see on shift" I say "have a good night kiddo" he says "You too" I say and walk out to my car. It has been a long day and I just want to go home and sleep. I pull away from the curb and head home.

-MATTHEW CASEY POV-

I see Dawson walk out and I start thinking to myself. She's on ambo so if I asked her out we wouldn't get in trouble, but it seems like she hates me. We got off on the wrong foot, but I am hoping to fix that, because I know what she said and what Mouch said on shift today was true. I need to fix things not just because I like her, but because it is the right thing to do. "Matt Casey staring off into space when there is hockey on is the world coming to an end" Herman says. "I might if I don't make things right with Dawson" I say "what do you mean kid" he says. "I was a jerk to her on shift, and I kind of have feelings for her. Listen I know you are going to say 'you just met', but I don't care I really like her" I say he smiles and says "tell her, but Casey don't you hurt her I know I just met her, but she is like a daughter to me" "Thanks Herman" I say pay my bill wave bye and leave to go home.

-THE NEXT DAY-

-GABBY DAWSON'S POV-

I got back to my house around 11, I had to stop at the store, because if I didn't I wouldn't have had dinner for tomorrow. I left my house around 8 to go see my brother in the hospital it has been two day's since he got shot I am just happy he is okay.

-AT THE HOSPITAL-

"How is work going" he says when I walked in. "Well yesterday I basically ripped all of truck 81 and squad 3 a new one" I say "Now they are starting to treat me right, and one of them, Herman considers me to be another kid to him like his daughter which is nice to have another person looking out for me." He smiled and said "that's great and I am happy for you are you okay you look tired" "I had a hard time sleeping last night I had a PTSD attack, and the doctor said that usually happens after getting shot" I say "Okay, what's on your mind, but don't lie I can always tell when you do." He says "There is this guy at work who I think I may like" I say "Listen sis in house dating usually doesn't end well give it a few months okay, but be careful" he says "I will" I say. We said our goodbyes and I left to head home.

-AT HOME-

I got home changed into my running close and ran to Navy Pier when I got there I sat staring at the water thinking about what my brother told me. I don't know what I am going to do. All I know is if I am going to listen to my brother I can only see Casey when I am on shift or working at Molly's. I got up and started running again. About 20 minutes after I started running again I saw him stop to get some water. I turn around and start running home, hoping he doesn't see me.
