Into the Fire

Chapter 8

-MATT CASEY POV-

I was on the radio system today watching the calls. When something came through from someone, but main, and it wasn't for a truck it was for a whole house "Fire house 51 do you copy" it sounded like Davis. "We copy what's up" "this is Lieutenant Davis we just pulled a smoke victim from a house fire her name is Gabby Dawson says she works at 51 just thought you would want to know she is being taken to med over and out". Oh no Gabby I was so worried what if she died. I can't think like that no now I got over the louder speaker "EVERYONE LOAD UP JUST GOT A MESSAGE FROM TRUCK 67 DAWSON WAS PULLED ROM A FIRE LETS HEAD TO MED". We all pulled out to get to med.

-AT MED-

Truck 67 was their when we arrived. "Davis how is she" "They said she should be okay to head back to work tomorrow" "Thanks" I told him and went up to the nurse about to ask what room Gabby was in when I saw her come out and she was wearing a smoky ambo sweatshirt she must have had on during the fire. "GABBY" I said as I ran over and hugged her picking her up off the ground. When I put her down I went in and kissed her she kissed me back. I heard Davis ask Herman "What is your Lieutenant doing to your PIC?" "They're dating" Herman told him. I didn't care after that my girl was okay and that is all that mattered to me. I put my arm around her shoulder and said "You're staying at the firehouse tonight" "Okay" she said. "Bye gabby" said Davis man I really hate that guy "Bye Jake again thanks for saving me" she said. "Jake?" I asked not knowing what just happened "he told me to call him Jake after he pulled me out. I don't get why everyone hates him". I didn't want to fight with her so I just smiled not letting her know how much I hate him. "Herman take my seat Darden take Herman's" I say I was going to hop in back by gabby. When we left she was asleep with her head on my shoulder. Darden just smiled at us "you two are perfect for each other" he said "Yeah I guess we kind of are" I say as I kiss Gabby's head.

-JAKE DAVIS POV-

I was called to headquarters. The thing is I was saving Gabby at first hoping for a promotion, but she is different she is friendly not like everyone she doesn't hate me. She doesn't know me, but saving her I don't regret doing, and if I had the choice of a promotion of saving her I choose her. Matt Casey is a lucky man to have her love him, but I am actually okay with just being friends with her. Finally, hopefully my first friend, who has the same job as me. The thing is no one knows why I am the way I am there are some many reasons why.

When I was six my mom died from cancer and it was hard for me at first. I couldn't believe that it happened we all have something happen that changes us. My mom just became a chief at the fire department when she died from cancer, and I want to make her death mean something and complete her dream which she never was able to. My dad was never really around, and my brother ran away when I was 13.

I got to headquarters and said "Jake Davis I was called in to see Chief Jones" "Okay take a seat I will call you when he is ready'". I waited about ten minutes than was called in. "Hello chief" "Lieutenant Davis I heard you saved the life of one of the best paramedics in Chicago today" "I saved a paramedic, but I didn't know she was the best in Chicago" "You did we were going to announce that at the academy dinner" "Oh wow does she know" "No she doesn't so don't tell her" "Will do sir". "So you have had a very nice record of being a good leader, and I talked to you chief, Jake Davis from this point on you are no longer a Lieutenant you are now a Captain, and I see chief coming soon in your future" "Thank you sir". "That's all" I left after thanking him again, I was so happy. I can't wait to till the academy dinner next week when they announce my promotion, and Gabby's award for being such a good paramedic. I texted Gabby happy about my promotion.

Me- Hey Gabby I just found out I am being promoted to captain.

Gabby- Jake that's great I am so happy for you

-GABBY DAWSON POV-

I was reading on my bunk when I got a text it was from Jake.

Jake- Hey Gabby I just found out I am being promoted to captain

Me- That's great I am so happy for you

I didn't know why Matt didn't like him so much, Jake was a nice guy. So why do people hate him, and I didn't know why I thought he was a nice guy. I walked into Matt's office and closed the door I needed answers, and maybe I could fix the problem. Matt turned around and looked at me with a smile on his face. "Hey Gabby what's up" "Why do you dislike Davis so much?" "What??" "I said why do you hate Davis so much". "Why you ask" "because when I met him he seemed like a friendly person so I don't get why you hate him". "Okay you want to know why?" "Yes" "We were in the academy together, we graduated in the same class. When I made Lieutenant before him he started saying things like 'the kid of a murderer is now in charge of others he is going to get them killed', I confronted him and even he said it was because I got promoted, and he didn't. We were friends before that happened, but once he said what he did we stopped being friends." "Okay I get why you don't like him, but why does 81 hate him?". "That I honestly think is my men being loyal to me" "Okay I get it, so do you want me to tell him I can't be friends with him because I don't want to put our relationship in danger" "no you can be friends with him, he is respectful to you, but keep him at arm's length away at all times okay?" "Okay".
