My notifications aren't working properly (quite a few other users seem to have the same problem - apparently, the servers have gotten a bit overloaded over the holidays and the whole site is now 'under maintenance'...) so my sincere apologies if I respond late (or maybe even not at all?!) to updates and comments☹️!!!

This book is not an old idea but a rather new one. I'd wanted to write a 'Ninja are normal kids/teenagers' book for a while but I didn't want to write a 'Ninjago High School' book. There are quite a few really good ones around already - written by some of my favourite authors here🙂! - so it would have felt like copying them.

But then I finally had this idea when we were switching through the channels on NYE and ended up watching 'Queen Live at Wembley'... so it will feature quite a few of their songs (which of course don't belong to me!). This chapter mentions two songs, but I could only link in the header, the other one is at the end of the chapter!

It's not primarily a shipping story, but it will have a little bit of Jaya (I was actually thinking of making it a Bruiseshipping story, just for a bit of change, but when I asked that question on my profile, the vast majority still wanted Jaya - which of course is perfectly fine with me 😍 !!!) and Kailor. But there's still going to be a lot of platonic Bruise!

I imagine Lou and Cole as (part-)French.

"To Infinity and beyond!"

Ten-year old Cole Brookstone watched in annoyance, as his classmate once again slid down the stair rail, shouting one ridiculous movie catchphrase after the other.

"Whoo-hoo." The other boy exclaimed, as he landed on his feet, right next to his 'friend'. "This is sooo cool. Can I go again?"

Cole mentally face-palmed. The kid acted like he had never been on an ordinary staircase before. Although this probably wasn't far from the truth, considering the boy's family lived in a trailer on a junkyard.

But still that wasn't an excuse for being excited about more or less everything.

Why had Cole not just said 'no' when his self-proclaimed new best friends had looked at him with his big blue puppy eyes, pretty much begging him to let him come over to play together – because that's what friends do, right? Now he had to deal with that annoying hyperactive classmate of his for the whole afternoon.

Having previously been home-schooled, eight-year old Jay Walker had started in Cole's class only a few days ago. And out of all the seats available in the classroom, the talkative junkyard kid had chosen to sit next to him. And he had instantly decided that the two of them were destined to be the best of friends.

Cole, however, did not quite agree with that, the quiet black-haired boy usually preferred to be on his own.

"Do you wanna have a snack?" He suggested. Maybe they could just grab some food and then sit down to watch some cartoons, that would make this whole play date thing more bearable. And maybe, just maybe, Jay would finally stop talking...

But as they walked to the kitchen, Jay pointed at the black Steinway standing proud in the centre of the drawing room.

"What's that?" He asked, for the umpteenth time this afternoon.

Cole rolled his eyes. "It's a grand piano." He replied. "That's a musical instrument." He added, just in case.

"Cool." Jay stated, having never seen a horizontal piano before. "Can you play it?"
