A new Jaya story, but not the one I've been working on for a while now (because I am still a bit stuck with that one). This is an idea I just had last night...

It is an AU story, but with quite a few elements from the show, mainly from Season 1.

I got the basic idea from the movie 'Mr and Mrs Smith', but the plot will deviate quite a bit. Jay and Nya are not married, they are not assassins, and they will not try to kill each other 😂.

They are dating, and they are members of the Ninja respectively Samurai, two secret (and rivalling) groups protecting Ninjago. So, what happens when they discover each other's secret identities?

Ninja vs. Samurai

Sorry, I am late." Jay Walker apologised as he burst into the staff changing room of Steep Wisdom, one of Ninjago's most popular tea shops – and headquarters of the Secret Ninja Force, a team of five elemental masters destined to protect their home. "The professor at my final class just wouldn't stop talking..." The 22-year old engineering student explained.

"Reminds me of someone." Cole, Master of Earth and Jay's best friend, smirked. "But don't worry, Sensei seems to be busy, so if you hurry up getting changed, he won't notice."

Sensei Wu was the owner of Steep Wisdom as well as the Ninja's strict teacher.

"Okay, thanks." Jay nodded and started changing into his work uniform. To maintain their cover, the five Ninja - four college students plus Sensei Wu's young nephew who was still in High School – formally had part-times jobs at the tea shop, selling exclusive leaves and serving expertly brewed hot beverages to their customers.

"Lucky you." Kai, the red Ninja of Fire, muttered. "I was late for my class this morning and the professor did notice."

"How come?" Cole raised a bushy eyebrow. "Did Nya forget to wake you?"

"Kind of." Kai admitted. "She had to work last night and didn't even come home before college."

Nya was Kai's younger sister, a student in marine biology who also had a job at a 24/7 autobody shop. Much to her brother's dismay, she was also Jay's girlfriend, the two of them had met at Kai's Birthday party a few months ago. And the auburn haired young man knew for sure that Nya had not spent all of last night at work.

"Hey, Jay." Cole called. "I didn't know you have a cat."

"I don't." The Master of Lightning said, confused about his best friend's comment. "Why would you think that?"

"Oh, just because you have some scratch marks on your back." As black Ninja burst out laughing, Kai glared at the poor Lightning Ninja, whose face had turned deep red upon his friend's remark.

"These marks do not match any feline species." Zane, the team's very own Nindroid and Master of Ice, stated. "They rather appear to be..."

"Thank you Zane." Jay quickly pulled his white t-shirt with a green teapot printing on the front over his head. "I must have hit it at a door at university this morning. Now, hurry up before Sensei tells us something like 'Evil is always on time. And so should you.'"

"Consider yourself lucky again, Walker." Kai said, placing the teapot-shaped hat on his spiky brown hair. "But as much as I hate to admit it, you are right."

"Then let's go." Cole impatiently said, and the four friends opened the soundproof door to the currently almost empty tea shop.

"Hey guys." Lloyd, Sensei Wu's nephew greeted them happily. "Uncle is already waiting for you in the training room." He whispered. "For today's first lesson, he wants Cole to go on the training course, Zane to meditate, and Kai and Jay to spar against each other."

"Oh, it will be my pleasure." The red Ninja smirked at his sister's boyfriend. "Shall we use our elemental weapons? I could really use my Sword of Fire to burn off a few issues with you..."

"Alright, bring it on. Good thing your hair already looks like you've got an electric shock, so no one will notice when I've beaten you with my Nunchucks of Lightning." Jay retorted, as the friends walked into the back area of the shop, which not only contained a store room and the kitchen, but also a rather impressive training hall.

"Friends, we should not argue with each other." Zane chided his teammates. "We already have enough problems with the Serpentine and the Samurai."

"Ugh, I hate snakes." Cole stated, performing a few warm-up exercises. The Serpentine, an ancient race of snake people, who were currently terrorising and trying to take over Ninjago, were the team's main enemy.

"And I hate the Samurai." Jay added, stretching his legs. "We are so much better than they are. They are nothing without their fancy mechs."

While the Ninja Force and the Samurai Warriors were actually fighting on the same side (and against the same enemy), a fierce rivalry had developed between the two groups, both claiming to be the true 'Protectors of Ninjago'.

"And you will have just the opportunity to prove it." To the young men's surprise, Sensei Wu, an old man with a long white beard, all dressed in white and gold, was suddenly standing right next to them, having snuck up to his students. "Yes, you should never let your guard down, not even here. But we can work on your discipline later, our scanners have just picked up Serpentine activity at the Mega Monster Amusement Park."

"Whoohoo, a mission." Cole cheered. "Anyone else feeling all tingly inside?"

"Ninja-Gooo." The four older Ninja spun into their colourful gis and grabbed their golden elemental weapons. As they sprinted outside, they pulled down their masks before turning their elemental weapons into vehicles and heading off towards Mega Monster Amusement Park.
