Pilot # 12: Perfect Day

This is a little Jaya story I've been working on and off (mostly off 😂) since before the summer. But I'm obviously not going to finish it now, so I'm moving it here. Please note that everything here is still at draft stage, so not edited or proofread!

It's a movie/show hybrid – set after TLNM but includes show characters. And Zane isn't as creepy as in the movie.

Chapter 1 (in which Kai has a brilliant idea)

"Good afternoon, fellow Ninja."

"Hey Zane." Four pairs of eyes turned to the Master of Ice who had just joined the group at their usual lunch table this Friday.

"What's gotten you so chirpy today?" Cole, Master of Earth, questioned.

"Yes, and why are you late?" Jay, the Blue Ninja, wondered. "You're never late."

"The answer to both of your questions is the same; I stayed behind after the last period to ask PIXAL to be my Valentine." He made a dramatic pause. "And she has accepted."

His excitement, however, was only greeted with a collective groan.

"Was there ever any doubt that she would?" Kai questioned.

"Yeah, I mean it's like you two were made for each other." Jay agreed. He sighed. "If only if it was that easy for the rest of us..."

"Speak for yourself." Kai grinned. "I'm going with Skylor."

"You've actually asked her out?" Lloyd gasped. "I mean, you've been casually flirting with her for months..."

"I've simply taken my time to convince her of my qualities." Kai replied smugly.

"More like wear her down." Cole whispered to his best friend.

Kai shot them a glare. "At least I have a date for the Valentine's Ball."

"And? So do I." Cole shrugged. "A hot date with my turntables, I'll be your DJ for the night."

"And I'm going with Rumi." Lloyd, the Green Ninja, chimed in.

Kai furrowed his eyebrow. "Of all people at this school, you're going with Harumi? What's gotten into you to ask her?"

"Well, I didn't actually ask her..."

"She has asked you then?" Zane concluded.

"Not like that either." Lloyd blushed. "She has simply informed me that, as the star of the evening, it would be the logical choice for me to go with the school president."

"I cannot disagree with her conclusion." Zane nodded in approval.

"Oh, great." Jay sighed. "That means I'm the only one of us going alone... why can't I just stay at home? I mean, it would just be like all the other years..."

Until only a few months ago, Lloyd and his friends had been the least popular students at Ninjago City High School. Their popularity had hit rock bottom in February when, due to yet another attack by Lord Garmadon – the Green Ninja's own father – and his Shark Army, the roof of the gym had been damaged so that the annual Valentine's Day ball had to be cancelled. But, following the so-called Meothraw Incident and the discovery of the Ninja Force's true identities, this had taken a complete turnaround, so that the young Garmadon and his teammates had been invited as Guests of Honour to the End-Of-Year-Turned-Belated-Valentine's school party.

"Because everyone has been making an effort to be nice to us." Lloyd pointed out. "And it would be rude not to turn up."

"They've never cared about being rude to us before." Jay muttered.
