The lights went out in the apartment building again. She walks through the halls of the apartment. But what she doesn't realize is... She's being followed...
Blackout.
The lights went out again in my apartment room. I grabbed a flashlight and headed over to my neighbor's room. I knocked. No answer. I knocked again. Still, nobody answered. I wouldn't be surprised. It's one o'clock in the morning. They're probably sleeping. The reason I'm not asleep is because I have a huge test tomorrow, well technically today. I've been up all night studying. College is hard. Especially finals. Luckily, I live near my friends, so sometimes they help me study.
I walk down the hallway to the elevator and press the down button. As I wait there, I here footsteps coming towards me. I my flashlight points toward the end of the hallway. Nothing's there. As I turn my flashlight off to save battery, I look back at the end of the hallway... And see... Red... Glowing.... Eyes...
I turn my flashlight back to that spot, nothing is there. The elevator door finally opened. I walked in, and pressed the button to the third floor. The door closes, and I'm shaking. I'm coming from the tenth floor, and the elevator is really slow. I'm at the seventh floor... This might take a while...
As I see the lights change from five to four, the lights in the elevator suddenly turn off. Ah crap. I think to myself. I turn on my flashlight again, only to see the two red eyes I saw at the end of the hallway in the elevator. I scream and turn my flashlight towards the floating red eyes. Nothing. Maybe I'm just paranoid? The elevator lights start to flicker on and off. I feel like I'm living a horror movie.
I finally reach the third floor. The elevator doors slowly open. The third floor looks like a hurricane recently passed by. Everything looked destroyed. The small mirrors in the hallway, shattered and scattered across the floor. The little side tables, flipped over and broken into pieces. Paintings, ripped and barely still hanging on the walls. I walk over to my friend's apartment and knock. No answer. I knock again. No answer. As I knock the third time, red liquid starts spilling over the top of the door. I try to move my hand, but I get rejected. I can't move a muscle in my body.
I'm stuck in that position with red liquid spilling down my arm. The liquid is hot. It's running down my arm. It's burning. I scream in pain. I scream for help. Nobody comes to help. Then, standing in the doorway of my friend's apartment were the glowing... Red... Eyes...
The glowing red eyes were staring back at me. "Wh-who are y-you?" I ask. I was clearly scared. You could tell in the tone of my voice. No answer. Just awkward staring. As I try to turn away, something grabs my arm. Black claws are gripping my wrist so incredibly tight, I think it's starting to cut off the blood circulation to my hand. I scream and yell for help. Everything is silent. I scream and kick, but the claw pulls me into the apartment. And all I see right before my eyes... Was once... My best friend...
I stood there in shock. I felt tears running down my cheeks. "W-why would y-you do this?!? She was a g-great person! A straight A student in college! Why? WHO ARE YOU!?!" I scream. I look around. Her apartment. It's empty. Things scattered across the floor. Pictures off the wall and broken. The mirror by her front door. Shattered. Everything is a mess. But something terrifying happens. My best friend. Her body... Is standing before me...
I look into her eyes, knowing my own are filled with terror. Her legs are barely holding her up. She starts to stumble towards me. Her eyes are now completely red. The pupil, red. The outer white of the eye, red. Her eyes, they're like the other eyes I saw at the end of the hallway and in the elevator. Was that her?
My thoughts were interrupted by screaming. A high pitched, girly scream. When my friend got distracted, I took that time to run. i ran out the door, hopped into the elevator, and hit the lobby button. When I got to the lobby, there was no one there. The doors were locked from the outside. There was a sign in front saying, "NO TRESPASSING." It looks like the building shut down? I turn around, going back to the elevator, when I meet the red eyes again.
The red eyes. It was my friend. "It was me this whole time. At the end of the hallway. In the elevator. At the entrance to my own apartment." A man's voice was coming out of her. It wasn't her. She was possessed. "You're possessed! Snap out of it!" I screamed, more tears swelling in my eyes. She grabbed my wrist, and it instantly started bleeding. Her hands turned into claws. Her eyes red. Her voice was a man's voice.
With all the blood coming out of my wrist, I fell to the floor, looking at my hand. It was pale. I was blinking very heavily. After my tenth blink, I couldn't open my eyes. I heard the man's voice. "Goodnight. Never wake up again." And then, I fell into an infinite darkness.
My eyes shot open. I was in my apartment room. Everything was... Normal. There was a book in my hand. It had a black cover with red eyes. It read, Blackout. By Olivia. The book was small. A short story. It looked like I was just finishing up the story, where the girl was dying and fell into infinite darkness. Just a bad dream. I remember my friend giving this book to me last night. She knew how much I loved horror stories. I set the book down, got up, got dressed and headed towards the elevator. I pressed the third floor button and went down to my friend's apartment.
I knocked on the door and she answered. Before she said anything, I shoved the book into her hands and left, continuing on with my ordinary, college life.
