Chapter 16: Catching up

After a few hours i'm coming closer to New York. Ah home, it's good to be back. I think as i drive my way into the city. The moment i drove out of Storybrooke, i missed Henry. The whole drive i couldn't think of anything else then him growing up fast. And i missed most of it. I'm happy he grew up with Regina. She's amazing. God i miss her.. if only she didn't lie to herself. We could like.. be together? She is the other part about Henry that i miss. When i think of Henry, i see Regina and when i think of Regina..i see Henry. I arrive at the garage where i park my car. And after a minute i unlock the door to my appartment. It's quite. I put my bag down and walk towards the kitchen and pour myself a glass of wine. Even this reminds me of Regina. I decide to ditch the wine and i grab a beer out of the fridge. I sit down on the couch and turn on the television to see the news. Only drama and crime. Now i know i'm back in New York. I check my phone to see a notifaction.

Ruby: Hi gorgeous. Miss you already. Got home safe?

I smile at my phone and text her back.

Emma: Just got home, hotstuff. Thank you for checking.

Tho i like Ruby, she's not Regina. And i want Regina to check up on me.. i could just text her about Henry, right?

It's the middle of the night, but again i can't sleep. I'm dealing with such a dilemma and i only have less than a week to figure it out. If Ruby goes after her before Henry and me.. i should sleep. I have to take Henry to school tomorrow. Ugh. I have to work again too.. after a few minutes i finally fall asleep.

As i wake up in the morning just a minute before my alarm clock goes off, i sit up in my bed. I shut the alarm off before it will set. When i check my phone i see Emma's name pop up.

E: Hi, how are you? How is Henry? I miss him. Thank you for for the meeting.

I'm sure she misses him. He misses her too, but he'll be fine in the end.
I decide to text her back.

R: Goodmorning. Henry is doing good. I'm sure he misses you too. I let him know you asked about him.

After preparing myself for the day, i make my way downstairs and get breakfast ready and lunch for Henry to take with him to school. When i'm done i'm going back up to wake him up. 'Henry, wake up sweety. Time for school.' He slowly opens his eyes and then hides under his blanket. 'Is this hide and seek? Cause you're doing an awful job hiding.' Henry laughs and then comes back up. 'I don't feel like going to school today. Can we do something together.' -' Oh my love, i wish we could. Apparently, someone invented school and work to make our lifes miserable!' I laugh while tickeling him. 'Hahaha, okay mom, stop! fine. I'm getting ready.' I smile and stand up. 'That's my boy. See you downstairs in a bit.'

The next morning i make my coffee before going to work. I grab my badge and my car keys and i'm off. Back to reality. I walk in the office and Tamara is in detective Mendell's office when she sees me coming in. 'OMG! My girl, i can't believe you're back. It seemed like forever!' She sprints my way and hugs me very tight. 'Hey T, it's good to see you. Like i've never been away!' I joke when i hear Mendell calling out my name. 'Agent Swan, a word please.' He escorts me inside his office and i take a seat. 'Emma, what are you doing here already? You have 5 more days off.' - 'I know detective Mendell, i didn't know what to do in my free time.' I give him an awkward smile and he sits up. 'Well, i have your New Jersey cover in the field. So how about i give you some homework?' - 'Uhm, homework sir?' - ' Yes Swan, homework. I want you and Tamara to go out of the office, stop by the grocery store to get a big bucket of ice cream to take with you to your appartment and put on a good movie. Oh and while you're at it.. don't forget to catch up.' I freeze for a moment gazing with surprise. 'Wow, Greg.. are you sure you have testicles?' I say when a smirk appears on his face. 'I'll just pretend you didn't just say that to your boss. Now go, before i change my mind.' I stand up and run out of the office towards Tamara. 'Come on T. Time to go.' - 'Yes, i heard it all. We're gone!' She responds.

We arrive at my appartment with 3 buckets of Ben and Jerry ice cream. We couldn't pick so we bought our three favorite flavors. I take the first bucket and put the other two in the freezer. I open the Strawberry Cheesecake while Tamara is choosing the movie. 'Em, tell me everything about your son!' She shouts from the livingroom. I join her in the livingroom with our ice cream and two spoons, wearing a bright smile even thinking about Henry. 'He is amazing. He is smart and kind and very well raised.' - 'So the boy ended up with the Mayor?' I smile when i think about Regina and i feel my face turn a little red. 'Yes, she did an amazing job raising him.' Tamara stares at me and her eyes widen. She drops her jaw and punches my arm. 'Em, omg! You didn't tell me the Mayor of that town is hot..i can see it in your eyes.' She jumps up and down. 'Does that matter? If he is raised by an amazing single woman who happens to be good looking?' I blush again. 'Em, you are totally smitten!' Tamara laughs and falls back on the couch. I giggle like a schoolgirl and try to change the subject. 'I taught you wanted to know about Henry? Besides..his mother is off topic. I hooked up with someone else.' - 'Emma, you slut!' Tamara punches me again.' I fill her in about Ruby and tell her everything about Henry. I talk a little bit too much about Regina and everytime i bring her up, Tamara is proving her point about my crush. 'So, what do you think T?' - 'I think.. you should tell that poor Ruby girl you are into the Mayor of her town. And make the mother of your son your lover!' - 'That's easier said than done. And yes you might be right. I haven't told you everything yet.' Tamara sits back up like she's watching a good movie. 'Regina and i.. we may have kissed like, several times. That one time, it got a little hotter, but then Henry came home from his friend.' Tamara's eyes widen again as i keep telling her about Regina's distance towards me everytime we got closer. 'Girl, we are talking about a closeted gay, mark my words.' After catching up, we finished our first bucket of ice cream. I get the Caramel chew chew out of the freezer and we put on the movie Tamara picked out. 'It's time for some Disney classics!' She smiles brightly when putting on Beauty and the beast.
