NanoCoffee-Kim and Duncan
"Duncan!" I scream, warm tears pouring down my pale face. The room is cold and dark. Nearly everything is a shining white that looks grey in the night. I can't see the corners of the room, they are filled with black, darkness seeping in and filling the room, trying to reach me and pull me under. I sit upright on the marble bench. Is this one of the labs? I can't tell.
"Kim?" his voice echoes down the towering hallways of the castle, multiplying and fading at the same time. I remember all the fun we would have with the echo. We would yell into the depths of the castle, then count who's echo stayed the longest. I miss those times. Even though I usually lost.
"Kim! Are you alright?" Duncan appears in the arched doorway, tired blue eyes lit by worry. His blonde hair is messy and his lab coat is hanging off of one shoulder, so he must have been sleeping when I screamed. Good for him. He hardly ever sleeps due to his work, so I feel a bit bad for waking him up.
He looks over at me, shivering and crying, hugging myself in fear, and immediately rushes over. Duncan sits beside me and puts his arms around me. I rest my head on his chest, sobbing uncontrollably. He rocks me back and forth, patiently waiting for me to calm, talking in a soothing voice all the time.
"It's alright, I'm here. Nobody is going to hurt you. I promise," he whispers to me. After a minute or two of me crying and him comforting, I sit up again. Duncan keeps one arm around me, and pulls the lab coat back up his shoulder with the other.
"Do you want to tell me?" he asks softly. I sniff and wipe the latest trickle of tears from my eyes. I start to speak.
"I had a nightmare..." my quiet voice wavers before resolving into a sob. Duncan hugs me tight in reassurance.
"Sharing the nightmares makes them not as bad." I take a deep breath and carry on.
"It was dark. I was lost and I was alone. You were yelling and I couldn't get to you. No matter how hard I tried, something kept pulling me away. It was purple swirls of smoke, and a man kept laughing. They took you away, and I couldn't help you then it all went purple," the tears want to come back, but I have none left to cry. My breathing quickens.
"It's ok Kim, you're safe. Dreams can't hurt you, only scare you," he brushes a single tear from my cheek. I gaze at him. Our eyes lock, his glittering blue staring into my misty brown, searching one another for hidden emotion. Even though he is trying to hide it, Duncan's eyes betray a fear embedded in the back of his mind. I frown.
"Duncan, what are you scared of?" I question worriedly. He sighs and runs his fingers through his light hair. He seems distressed by something. Perhaps it's one of his projects.
"Do you remember why you're here?" he asks. Nervously, I shake my head. He sighs again.
"Kim," he starts. A distinct sense of uneasiness washes over me in a cold wave. "Kim, you fell in the flux and-" he trails off, holding my hands up in between us. Swirls of rich indigo snake up my arms, reaching a little past my elbows. The exact shade from my nightmare.
"Kim, the flux has taken part of you. It's not infected you, but it is in you," Duncan finishes. I gasp and close my eyes.
"Oh my gosh," I'm starting to panic again. I look to Duncan, who is staring back, his face showing his concern. "What will it do to me?" Duncan gives me a small smile and moves closer.
"I won't let it do anything to you," he whispers softly in my ear.
Then we share our first kiss. The most amazing kiss I have ever shared.
So, there's the first one. Done! I ship NanoCoffee so hard, I feel the characters are just great together!
See ya peoples!
