I pick up a stick and poke the dying embers of the fire. A few flames flare up and feed off the dry tinder that Martyn arranged on top of the dusty grey and white ashes. Soon the fire is a comforting blaze of scarlets and glowing ambers, lighting up the night and melting the fragile snowflakes that drifted too close. I shuffle closer to the heat, shivering as I watch my breath cloud and fade away, like a puff of smoke from a dragon who won't breathe fire.

"This is magical," I sigh happily, staring at the fire.

"You know what makes a fire even more magical?" Martyn pulls a packet out from behind his back. "Marshmallows!" I laugh as he sits next to me, stuggling to get into the packet of pink and white marshmallows. After a few moments of watching him try to rip the plastic, I reach over and take it from him, easily tearing the top of the packet and smirking.

"I thought you were supposed to be the strong adventurer," I joke. Martyn suppresses a grin and fakes shock.

"I will have you know that I am one of the best adventurers this land has ever seen!" he protests.

"Well most adventurers should be able to open a bag of marshmallows!"

"Yeah, most. I'm not like most of them. I mean, look at me!" Martyn gestures to his pale blue skin and blue, snow dusted hair. "How many people do you know who change colour in the Winter?"

"One. And he is the strongest, kindest, most courageous adventurer that Minecraftia has seen since the legendary heroes!" I put an arm around Martyn. Where my fingers touch his arm, the icy colour melts away to the colour of his skin in Summer. When I move them tiny snowflake patterns cover him in ice again. I trail my fingertips up his arm, trcing spirals and swirls on his cold skin. I smile. Martyn relaxes next to me, both of us simply enjoying the others company.

The glittering snowflakes continue to fall, slightly thicker than they were minutes ago. "I think there's going to be a lot of snow by morning," I think out loud. I feel Martyn nod above me.

"Yep. And we'll be trapped indoors on Christmas day. What a shame," he grins, pulling me closer for a moment. "We'll only have each other for company."

"I'll be sick of you by the end of the day!" I answer, laughing. "How are you going to cope with being stuck indoors and unable to go see anyone?" I look up into his frosty blue eyes as Martyn leans down to kiss me. I reach up to wrap my arms around his neck, completely losing myself in the moment. I forget about the cold weather, the chill of his skin, instead his touch is warm. It feels as if we could melt the snow right now.

"I don't need to see anyone. I have you," he murmers. Smiling, we sit together, watching the dying flames as the snow falls faster and faster through Christmas Eve.

"Xeph? Xeph look out the window!" I yell excitedly, pointing out the glass pane. A flurry of snow swirls through the dark sky. Already I can tell it won't stop until at least tomorrow. So a Christmas morning snowball fight is a thing that's happening now. And I shall kick Xephos' butt at that.

"Oh joy, snow. A load of cold wet ice that keeps us stuck inside for days," he frowns, gripping a mug of tea in one hand and passing me a mug of hot chocolate with the other. Damn, I forgot how much he hates the cold. "I don't get why everyone loves it so much."

"Not all of us grew up in places where Winter was practically the temperature of the sun!" I protest, then take a sip of my warm drink.

He sighs. "If it were the temperature of the sun, I would be dead." He rolls his eyes and sighs. "Besides, I'd still rather be on this side of the window than out there." Xeph gestures to the snowstorm outside.
