— a misunderstanding

the door to your room swung open, rather harshly. you jumped back, standing up immediately to defend yourself as the intruder stood there, doing nothing at all. you couldn't see his face but his figure seemed familiar. "(y/n)." he simply stated, and of course, his voice did too.

"you shouldn't be here." you said, hoping he couldn't notice the tremble in your voice. however, it was hoseok you were talking to. he wasn't quite dull-witted. knowing him, he would've read you in a second.

you heard him scoff. he clicked his tongue. once, twice, three times. "why's that?" he paced back and forth before stopping to walk closer to you, with a smug look on his face. "do i make you nervous, (y/n)?"

"you can't just barge in my apartment and expect me not to be afraid."

hoseok snickered. "do you think i'll hurt you?"

"you've done it before. maybe, not physically but you did—emotionally. who says you won't hurt me again?"

he stayed quiet, for a brief moment. the time was enough for you to suddenly feel bad for what you just said, and immediately you wished you could take it back. in fact, you knew what happened before was an accident, but perhaps your pride was stopping you from admitting it.

"hurting you was never my intention." his voice cracked. "everything was a misunderstanding."

"you knew what you were doing." you pointed out. "i knew what you were doing."

you really didn't.

the scene played in your head. the image of hoseok hovering over someone other than you. he was right on top of his former partner. nevertheless, it actually wasn't what it looked like. it had been a misconception and after all, it was at a party full of rowdy people.

in fact, he said it himself.
"i was pushed, (y/n). none of this is what you think."

but in that moment, the words that came out of your mouth had already been heard. you overreacted, making it known to him that you didn't want anything to do with him any longer.

you walked out and haven't brought yourself to take those words back again. if anything, the person who was truly hurt here was him.

"i told you it was an accident!" hoseok raised his voice. "i've tried getting you to believe me and i'm still trying."

"then give up already," you said, sternly. "maybe it isn't worth trying to convince someone like me."

"you don't think you're worth it?" he asked.

"oh, my bad. perhaps it's the other way around." you snapped.

"you don't mean that."

"i do."

"(y/n)..."

"don't." you took a deep breath. "don't say my name like that."

you were about to break any second now, but what did it matter? you couldn't keep up your ego any longer. "my pride shouldn't be as, if not more, important than the truth," you thought.

"why not? does saying your name hurt you too?" he said, in an attempt to intimidate you. "what else hurts you, i wonder. tell me, (y/n), why does everything i do hurt you?"

"hoseok."

"tell me so i can avoid it." he gritted his teeth. "so i can be someone better to you."

he went on, ranting. talking about everything he never meant to do and explaining himself the best he can. however, it only made you feel worse. it made you feel terrible for allowing him to think that everything is his fault. he was apologizing, and that, simply, was not something he was supposed to be doing.
