It was around 5pm, when the three of us arrived at a junkyard.
"Oh yeah." Steve says, taking his shades off. "This will do."
We dumped the meat on the ground when we hear, "I said medium well!"
The three of us look up to see Dustin's friend and Billy's step sister, Max, getting off of a bike.
"Who's that?" Steve asks Dustin as the two walked over to us.
We both glance at Dustin. Was that the special girl he was talking about having a crush on?
Billy's sister?
Steve, Max, and I prep for catching the lizard thing while Dustin and Lucas talked about whatever behind a car. If I focused on their minds hard enough I could probably get an idea on what they were talking about, but I decide not to do so.
Max and I find scraps of things to board up the bus so nothing could get in it.
"I've been meaning to ask," Max says as we work on boarding the bus up. "Is Billy bothering you? At all? Because I've been noticing that he's been dragging you around like a rag doll."
I snort. "Well, he seems to think he can choose who I can or cannot talk to."
Steve glances over at us, listening in on our conversation.
She frowns. "Seriously? I swear, he's never done this with a girl before. Back in California he would just go through girls like cigarettes."
That's the kind of guy I thought he was. But here, in Hawkins, he hasn't been like that at all which confuses me.
She shakes her head. "I'm sorry. I sound horrible saying all of that but... are you guys like... together? Because maybe that would be why."
I drop the piece of scrap metal I was holding when she asks.
"Shit," I breathe.
"Here, I got you." Steve comes over to help me with the scrap metal. He then fake coughs. "Are you dating Hargrove? The whole lunchroom fiasco makes me think that you are."
Max frowns. "What lunchroom fiasco?"
"In a nutshell, Billy almost choked me to death because I hugged her." Steve tells Max. "Everything okay, Wilson?" He snaps me out of my daze.
I nod.
"So are you? You and Hargrove?"
How would we be? It's only been two and a half weeks that we've known each other now.
"No. He's just... he's..." I can't find a word to describe my relationship with him. He's not an acquaintance, he's not my friend, and he's definitely not my boyfriend. So what is he to me?
"Crazy?" Max smiles.
I nod, acting like that's what I was thinking.
"That he is." Steve agrees.
We work on boarding a bus a bit more. Soon enough Steve starts to get annoyed that Dustin and Lucas aren't helping at all.
"Hey, dickheads!" Steve waltzes over to Dustin and Lucas. "How come the only ones helping me out are this random girl and Whitley? We lose light in 40 minutes, Let's go!"
"Alright, Alright!"

It's now nightfall, and were just sitting in the dark bus when we hear a faint and creepy growl.
Steve and I rush over to the window to see what it is. Its foggy out, making things creepy and hard to see.
"You see it?" Dustin asks nervously.
"Nope," I answer. "To be honest, I don't even know what I'm looking for!"
"Lucas? What's going on?" Dustin then hollers to Lucas who is the lookout on the roof of the bus.
"Hold on!" He hollers back.
After a short moment, there's another growl.
"I've got eyes! Ten o'clock!"
I avert my eyes to the direction Lucas says it's in.
"There," Steve says, pointing at it.
"What the actual hell is that? What's it doing?"
"I don't know!"
Everything is eery and quiet as we wait for it to take the bait.
"He's not taking the bait," I note. "Why is he not taking the bait?"
"Maybe he's not hungry." Dustin reply.
"Maybe he's sick of cattle." Steve suggests after a moment of pondering. I turn to him with a nervous look. Could this be going terribly wrong?
Steve hops up and opens the bus door and walks out, taking the bat with him.
"Steve," I call. "What the hell are you doing?"
"Just get ready." He tosses me the lighter.
Dustin closes the creaky bus door as soon as Steve steps out.
"This is such a stupid idea." I say.
Steve crept towards the growling, his bat held out in front of his chest in defense.
Steve whistles like he's calling a dog. "Come on, buddy."
"What's he doing?" Max climbs down the latter.
"Expanding the menu." Dustin says without looking away.
"Come on, buddy." Steve repeats. "Come on... is dinner time. Humans taste better than cat, I promise."
Staring out the window, Max justifies, "He's insane."
"He's awesome." Dustin grins.
Steve swings the bat around, pushing the fog away, revealing the terrifying creature.
"Oh shit." I say under my breath.
Steve inches closer to it, ready to swing the bat, when Lucas screams, "Steve! Watch out!"
"I'm a little busy right now!" Steve called back.
"Three o'clock! Three o'clock!"
There were multiple of the creatures surrounding Steve now.
"Open the door." I order Dustin in a firm voice.
"What?"
"I said open the damn door!"
Dustin rushes to open the bus door. I run out to help Steve.
The creatures lunge at Steve. He quickly dodges it, remaining untouched. He hits it with the bat when it comes at him next.
"Steve! Get back in the bus! I got this." I yell at him.
"What? Are you crazy? You beat Tommy H and all of the sudden you think you can take on this... thing?!"
"Just trust me!"
"We're all going to die," He says before running back to the bus. When he passes me, I hold up my hand, concentrate, and throw the thing against a tree before running back to the bus.
"What the hell was that? Did you just use the force on that thing?" Steve asks while Dustin and Max stare at me in shock.
Even Lucas peeps his head down from the roof to look at me in shock.
"It's a long story. I'm not normal." I say as I barricade the door.
"Yeah? No shit!" Steve holds his hands against his head. "What the actual hell is happening right now?"
"You're like Eleven," Dustin says.
I pause what I'm doing to look at him. "Eleven? How do you know Eleven?"
Something jumps on top of the roof, causing the bus to shake. I spring into action, jumping in front of the group to protect everyone.
"Are they rabid or something?" Max asks in a fearful voice.
A monster gets in the bus and I immediately use my powers to force it to the ground. "Shit!" Shouts Steve, hitting it repeatedly with his bat as I hold it down until its dead.
"Is anyone there? Mike, Will, anyone?! God!" Dustin screams into the walk-e-talkie. "We are at the old junkyard and we are going to DIE!"
Something jumps onto the bus.
Horrified, Max glances up the ladder and screams.
"Out of the way! Out of the way!" Steve and I rush over to the ladder with the bat in his hands. "You want some, get some!"
I'm about to telekinetically squeeze the things throat when the thing growls at us but pauses.
It screeches at us one last time before retreating, moving somewhere into the woods.
It sounds like all of the creatures were moving off into the distance.
"What. Happened." Lucas deadpans, glancing out of the bus.
"Whitley and Steve scared them off?"
"No." Steve replies. "No way. They're going somewhere."
