"Where are we going first?" Brian asked.

"The blacksmith's," I stated.

It was our second day in Edges, a town on the border between Shala and Nuetrav. We spent the past day restocking and 'sightseeing' (if you call visiting every shop and stall in town sightseeing). We were staying at the Waterlily Inn run by a motherly woman named Grace. She kept the inn tidy and full of the fresh flowers of its namesake. When we had gotten there Brian had instantly asked if Grace knew any healers for my arm. He was really worried that it could have gotten infected in the five days since it had happened. None of my reassurances that I had dealt with my arm worse than this before would work. Grace ended up looking at it herself and cleaned it up properly. She told me that she'd want to see it again before I left town.

"There's that girl again." Cardon said.

He was looking at a girl at a different table, who had wavy burgundy hair, which looked to be almost violet. She had the haughty look I've seen daughters of nobles and some of the older girls from the orphanage had directed at me. I hated it when people judged me like that. I was no less human than they were.

"Why are you so obsessed with her?" I groaned. "It's getting less tolerable every time you talk about her."

"She looks like you." Cardon grinned. "I think she also has purple streaks in her hair."

"That's because she has hair that looks purple," I stated.

"No, there are actually dark purple streaks in her hair." Cardon replied. "Look,"

I looked she did indeed have more purple in her hair but it didn't really show much since her hair was already so close to purple. "Whatever,"

"Kara, just because Cardon likes another girl doesn't mean you have to be bothered by it. There's other boys in the world for you to pick on, okay?" Brian smirked.

"Still I wonder if you two are related?" Cardon wondered aloud.

"I'm an orphan," I said, still annoyed. "So it's possible. Anyway, are we going to leave now?"

"Kara, would you please hand me your locket." Brian requested, holding out his hand. "Please?"

I reluctantly took of my locket and passed it to him. The redhead girl was looking over at us and gasped when she saw the locket.

"Thank you." Brian pocketed my locket.

"What are you doing?" I demanded. "I didn't say you could take it."

"Kara, I know you want to carry it but there are some people that would steal it from a girl like you." He said. Brian wasn't even looking at me when he said it, he was looking at the redhead. I was a girl too so who cared?

I threw him a dirty look. I was starting to get really good at those. Then I stormed outside. Getting good at that too.

The boys followed after me. We walked in silence to the blacksmith's. The boys walked in front of me and I noticed the girl from the inn was attempting to 'sneakily' follow us. I rolled my eyes at her pitiful attempt and decided to ignore her.

The blacksmith's shop was a small building that was missing the top half of the wall in the front so people could see in and smoke could come out. The boys climbed over the wall into the shop. I noticed a door in the wall but went over the wall anyway. The hem of my dress got caught on a loose nail so I kind of stumbled off the wall onto the floor. "Stupid dress," I muttered under my breath. The one day I wear a dress and look what happens.

"Humpty Kadumpty sat on a wall and had a great fall." I heard one of the boys mutter to the other. I still didn't understand why they teased me so much. Maybe it was their way of saying you are my friend. Brian and Cardon teased each other and told corny jokes to each other all the time. I really don't know.
